Pokemon Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor DLC has introduced a ton of new features, from bringing back starters like Bulbasaur to new ways to reset EVs. But one of the coolest features is the ability to let a Pokemon out of its ball to follow players around, though it may take some work to unlock the feature.

For players to get their Pokemon to follow them in Sword and Shield, they'll first need to complete three separate tasks in the Isle of Armor, which happen early on after meeting Master Mustard and joining the Master Dojo. The tasks, or trials, aren't the most complicated thing to complete, so players should be able to unlock the Pokemon following feature fairly quickly.

Defeat Three Fast Slowpoke

First, players will need to defeat three fast Slowpoke. After speaking to Master Mustard and leaving the dojo, the slowpoke will run away to the Soothing Wetlands, then move around in circles. One will be running around the pond with the tree in the center, another will be by the entrance to Brawler's Cave, and the last one should be by Challenge Beach. The Slowpoke can't be caught, but they're weak against Ghost, Bug, and Dark attacks.

Defeating them will net players the dojo clothes, which then have to be returned to the Master Dojo. At this point, players will be allowed to choose between two first-gen starters, Bulbasaur and Squirtle, as an early reward. The Pokemon are fan-favorites, so choose wisely.

Find Max Mushrooms

Players will then need to find three Max Mushrooms. Luckily, these are located in a cluster, so they should be pretty easy to locate. To find them, first head to the Warm-Up Tunnel. Following along the main path, players will eventually find three pink mushrooms. However, they'll first need to battle their rival, which will change depending on the version of the game players have; Klara for Sword and Avery for Shield.

Once the rival is taken care of and the mushrooms are collected, players can fast travel back to the Master Dojo.

Battle Your Rival

The third task is for players to battle their rival. Again, this will depend on which version of the game players have. The rival will have four Pokemon, the types of which also depend on the version of the game players have. Sword players will primarily be fighting Poison-types, while Shield players will be battling mostly Psychic types. However, both rivals have a Galarian Slowbro, so players will want to be mindful of that.

Completing the battle will earn players Isle of Armor's new Pokemon Kubfu. Players should also now be able to walk with the first Pokemon in their party, even if it's a Legendary. Unfortunately, players can only walk with the Pokemon on the Isle of Armor, as returning to Galar will force the Pokemon back into its ball.
