Max Raid Battles were a popular addition to Pokemon Sword and Shield. While quite a few are already in Pokemon Sword and Shield for players to tackle, a brand new one is headed to the game in celebration of World Penguin Day.

Max Raid Battles allow four trainers to team up and go through some of the most difficult and fun encounters in Pokemon Sword and Shield and gives them a chance at collecting some of the rarest Pokemon in the game. Themed Max Raid Battles are typically the focus of Pokemon Sword and Shield's timed events and have been a big boon to the series' endgame content.

The newest event sees the Max Raid Battles being taken over by the adorable ice-block-headed penguin Eiscue. Whereas most Max Raid Battles see players battling their way through multiple powered-up Pokemon, this one only features only a singular encounter with Eiscue. As Eiscue is only an Ice-type Pokemon, trainers hoping to try their hand at the Max Raid Battle will want to bring plenty of Pokemon Sword and Shield's Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel Pokemon to maximize their damage. Trainers, should not, however, bring any Grass, Ground, Flying, or Dragon Pokemon as Eiscue will make short work of them.

The Eiscue event has a short run and ends on April 25, so trainers who want to get in on the action do not have too much time to do so. The event also offers trainers a solid option to get their hands on a shiny Eiscue, as the drop rate of the extra rare Pokemon is bumped up to 2% in the Max Raid Battles. While that percentage is still low, it is a lot better than the game's usual 0.07% shiny appearance rate with a Shiny Charm, so it is worth at least giving it a shot for any trainers that don't want to try some of Pokemon Sword and Shield's other shiny-hunting methods.

The Eiscue Max Raid Battle event seems to be a fun way for Pokemon to help bring awareness to World Penguin Day, and it is a good way to keep things fresh for players while offering them one of the best ways to get their hands on a shiny Eiscue. The post-launch support for Pokemon Sword and Shield has been great so far, so hopefully, fans can expect a similar approach to the various upcoming Pokemon titles such as Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
