While Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield may not be stealing any Game of the Year headlines, it still has an impressively large following which is certain to be playing through the holidays. Perhaps for the holidays, or perhaps just for fun, Game Freak has decided to give fans a reward. Game Freak has released three new codes for free PokeBalls through its Japanese Twitter account, which work through the Mystery Gift system and expire on January 15.

Today's gifts come from none other than Pokemon Sword and Shield's Ball Guy, the friendly PokeBall mascot that hands out Pokeballs inside of every Galar-region gym. Apparently he's decided to bring his trade to social media. Each of the three codes Game Freak released today will gift the player three different PokeBalls, for 9 PokeBalls total. Each one is a different type of PokeBall, so hopefully Pokemon Sword and Shield players will find interesting uses for each of them.

The first code is "K0UN1NMASC0T" and will reward a Fast Ball, Moon Ball, and a Level Ball. Code number two is "1YAHAYA" and rewards a Heavy Ball, a Lure Ball, and a Beast Ball. The third and final code, for now, is "0KUGAFUKA1B0RU" and rewards a Love Ball, a Friend Ball, and a Dream Ball. It's possible that Game Freak will continue to release codes, but no more have been confirmed as of yet.

The process to redeem these codes is very simple. Pokemon Sword and Shield players simply need to open the menu in-game and select the Mystery Gift option. From here, select "Get a Mystery Gift" and then "Get with Code/Password." Players will then be able to input the above codes one at a time to receive their PokeBall gifts. There's even a cute Mystery Gift animation showing a holiday present being opened.

Add the new PokeBall codes to the list of currently available post-launch content that Game Freak has made available to Pokemon Sword and Shield players. Pokemon Sword and Shield players currently all receive a free special Meowth through Mystery Gifts, too. There are also ongoing events in the Wild Area that are boosting various Gigantamax Pokemon Spawns, as well. All of these events, including the new PokeBall codes, end in January, so players should capitalize as soon as possible.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
