Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, Game Freak's latest releases in its massively popular adventure series, have been out for a few weeks now, giving players ample time to fully explore the British-themed Galar region. Despite an extremely rocky run up to launch, Sword and Shield launched to a warm critical reception, and seem to have been picked up enthusiastically by fans of the series.

Amid a slew of new mechanics, many of the classics struggle to find their place. One system that will never be irrelevant in a Pokemon game however, is currency. Players need Pokedollars to buy held items, potions, Pokeballs, boosts, clothes and services. This means that the bill for being a professional Pokemon trainer can really rack up, so here's our guide to earning money fast.

The Early Game

Earning money as a child recently cast out into the big world of Pokemon can be a daunting task. The first item to look for on the quest to incredible wealth is the Amulet Coin, a held item that boosts the winnings of every battle that the Pokemon holding it takes part in. While the Coin can be bought in shops, it can also be acquired for free by catching a Galarian Meowth holding one, or by searching behind the Motostoke Outskirts sign.

Apart from Amulet Coin battles, the other reliable way to earn Pokedollars before the end-game is by visiting the Wild Area daily. The treasures in the Wild Area respawn, and there's a man in Stow-on-Side who will buy each one once per day for double their value. To capitalize on this, we recommend players always keep at least one of each Treasure, to maximize the potential earnings.

The Late Game

Once the main story of Sword and Shield is complete, players will gain access to a much more effective method of making money, albeit one that involves some effort to get started. First, players should redeem their Mystery Gift Gigantamax Meowth, then level it up to 100 using EXP Candles earned in Max Raid Battles.

Once this is done, give the Meowth an Amulet Coin and set it as the first Pokemon in the team. Next, head to Wyndon and enter a Tournament. Gigantamax Meowth during the battles, and use G-Max Gold Rush three times before the end of the tournament. This will give $99.999 per use of Gold Rush, plus $19,000 for winning each battle, for a total of over $350,000 earned by the end of the tournament!
