The Pokemon Company revealed information about Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC today, including its October 22 release date. While the overall presentation was short, offering a trailer before touching upon a few additions like co-op Dynamax Adventures that let players catch Legendary Pokemon, it ended with a music video by Japanese rock band Bump of Chicken that long-time fans of the franchise are sure to appreciate.

This music video, made for a song called "GOTCHA!," starts innocently with animated members of the band walking down a set of train tracks like Rob Reiner's Stand By Me before cutting to the life story of a pair of trainers with a Pikachu and Eevee. What fans are likely to latch onto is the sudden inclusion of important trainers from every game in the series — Gym Leaders, rivals, and more — appearing in the background with others who use the same typing.

The fan service only escalates from there with appearances by each games' protagonists, villain team leaders, and special facility operators like the Battle Chatelaines from Generation 6's Battle Maison. Key moments from the series are also animated, from the fight against Red on Mt. Silver in Pokemon Gold and Silver to a Gigantamax battle against Leon in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Anyone who has ever played a Pokemon game will likely be able to draw something meaningful out of the music video. It is visually packed to the brim with expressive animation by BONES Inc., an anime company known for its huge catalog including shows like Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, and My Hero Academia.

Though this was included as the end segment for an informational piece about the Crown Tundra DLC, it's readily apparent that The Pokemon Company wanted something to serve like an anthem. The song and its accompanying music video read like a celebration of the series through the eyes of fans that have stuck by it, which is fitting on the eve of Pokemon's 25th anniversary next year.

Many of those long-time players will likely appreciate the gesture as they wait to get their hands on Sword and Shield's second expansion next month, which includes new features like Star Tournaments that let them team up with popular Galar trainers. Pokemon fans have shown their love for the series in many ways, from creating fan games to crocheting every Pokemon currently in existence.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now on Nintendo Switch.
