In Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, many Pokemon from previous generations have returned to the Pokedex with the release of the "Isle of Armor" DLC. With many newer players starting out Pokemon journeys for the first time with Sword and Shield, some players may be unsure how to fulfill certain evolution conditions of certain Pokemon.
Many of these Pokemon being reintroduced in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have unique or abnormal evolution conditions. Some of these evolution conditions require a specific held item before evolution can take place.
Some Pokemon such as Kantonain Slowpoke and Poliwhirl have special evolutions that can only be obtained via a held item known as a King's Rock. This rare item may be hard to find for some players, while others may have already picked it up.
Outside of evolution, a King's Rock has the chance of making the Pokemon it's being held by have their moves cause opponents to flinch. However, what players will more likely want this item for is the ability to change certain Pokemon's evolutions.
With the King's Rock, Poliwhirl will evolve into Politoed if traded while holding it. Meanwhile, a Kantonian Slowpoke will evolve into Kantonian Slowking if traded while holding it.
Normally, there will be only one King's Rock in players' copies of Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield. It can be found in the little brick wall nook found on Route 8 as seen in the above picture. However, if players have lost it in any way, hope isn't completely lost.
On Route 6 or in Hammerlocke Hills' tall grass, the dual flying and fighting-type Pokemon known as Hawlucha can be found. This Pokemon has a 5% chance to carry a King's Rock. Players can either try grinding out catching Hawlucha or having a Pokemon that knows the move Thief to try and get this rare item once more.
Galarian Slowpoke cannot be evolved with the King's Rock as Galarian Slowking seems to be exclusive to the "Crown Tundra" DLC coming this fall 2020 (Or spring for Southern Hemisphere players).
