Snom is a fairly common Ice/Bug-type Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and is notable for being a slow, weak, and relatively limited Pokemon with only two moves. With Snom being by all accounts a weak Pokemon, why should players even want to catch it?

Because Frosmoth, Snom's evolution, is awesome. Frosmoth can use abilities like Shield Dust, which negates the effects of damaging moves, and possesses a hidden ability called Ice Scales that essentially halves the amount of damage taken from special moves.

But leveling the survival-impaired Snom enough to trigger its evolution is an understandably difficult task, unless Pokemon Sword and Shield players know exactly how to do it.

To Catch a Snom

As is the case with all Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield , the player must catch the Pokemon first. Snom is notable as a Pokemon because it disguises itself as an icicle, and no wonder considering how pathetic it is.

As such, Pokemon Sword and Shield players must make their way to Circhester or Wyndon City. Within the snowy areas around these two cities players have a fairly high chance of bagging themselves a Snom.

If players catch Snom with a Luxury Ball, they'll be getting a head start on the next part of this journey.

Friendship & The Night

Snom is one of those Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield who needs a high friendship level with its Master before it can evolve. Head to the Pokemon Camp to speed up the bonding and leveling process.

Once in the Pokemon Camp, players should have Snom as their debut, frontline Pokemon. This will allow Snom to begin the fight deployed, and players can swap him out while still gaining the friendship from using him. Pokemon Sword and Shield players just need to ensure they don't let Snom faint, as this will lower the friendship meter.

Other ways to speed up the friendship leveling process is to attach a soothe bell to Snom, or feed it curry. Players might find the act of playing with Snom to be rather arduous and dull, as the Pokemon moves about as fast a snail.

To Test a Friendship

When Pokemon Sword and Shield players feel they've built their friendship with Snom enough, they should go see the little boy to the right of the Pokemon Center in Hammerlock. If the kid says "Seems like you're pretty good friends!", or something to a greater effect, then Snom is ready to evolve.

The final and most crucial step will be to level Snom up from level 42 to 43 at night, and players will have their Frosmoth.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now for Nintendo Switch.
