Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra expansion is available now, giving fans of the latest Pokemon games a brand new adventure to experience and a slew of new Pokemon to add to their collection. As is typical of Pokemon games, there are some Pokemon in the Crown Tundra expansion that are exclusive to one version over the other, with Sword and Shield getting exclusive access to five Pokemon each.

Pokemon Sword players have exclusive access to Gen 1 fossil Pokemon Omanyte and Omastar, as well as Bagon, Shelgon, and Salamance. Pokemon Shield players, meanwhile, can catch Kabuto, Kabutops, Gible, Gabite, and Garchomp. Any Pokemon Sword and Shield players that want to fully complete their Pokedex will need to trade Pokemon with somebody that has the opposite version of the game that they do.

Overall, there aren't too many version exclusive Pokemon in Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC, so it shouldn't be too difficult for players to add the necessary Pokemon to their collection and complete their Pokedex. Back in August, a Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra exclusives list leaked and showed significantly more version-exclusives, but it appears that the leak was incorrect or those plans were scrapped.

One of the main draws of Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC is the ability to catch all of the legendary Pokemon from previous games in the series. Some of the legendary Pokemon may be exclusive to certain version's Max Raid Battles, but otherwise players should be able to catch all of the legendary Pokemon for their collection, regardless of version. It will still be a tough task for sure, but at least this way players don't have to rely on trading to get all of the Pokemon Sword and Shield legendary Pokemon.

For the most part, the legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield'Crown Tundra DLC will be as players remember them from previous games in the series. However, the legendary birds from Gen 1 (Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres) have Galarian forms that make them look quite a bit different than their Kanto counterparts. That being said, the Galarian legendary bird shiny forms do give them the same colors as the original ones.

In the meantime, the Crown Tundra DLC may very well be the last major content update that Nintendo and Game Freak have in store for Pokemon Sword and Shield, so fans shouldn't necessarily expect any new Pokemon to come to the games.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
