Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have officially begun their first online competition, dubbed Galar Beginnings. And with the start of the international competition, some of its final details have been confirmed. Potential competitors have had the opportunity to register for Galar Beginning since the Pokemon Sword and Shield launch. Registration is now closed and players have three days to prove their competitive Pokemon worth. Galar Beginnings officially ends at 11:59 pm UTC on December 8.

One detail that's been confirmed since the event's start is the reward for all Galar Beginnings competitors. Every single Pokemon Sword and Shield player that registered for the competition will be rewarded 50 Battle Points for their participation (at least 1 match). Considering how little BP is typically rewarded for climbing the Battle Tower, 50 BP is quite a lot. That doesn't make the variety of items at the BP shop any cheaper, of course, but every BP helps. 50 BP is one less mint players have to farm for, after all.

While the rewards for what players will earn for their eventual placement aren't clear just yet, details on how to claim it have been made available. After the event is over, players can go to Mystery Gifts and then Get Battle Stadium Rewards to claim their prize. It's going to be exciting to find out exactly what Game Freak will provide the best Pokemon Sword and Shield trainers in Galar Beginnings.

Various restrictions for the competition have also been made clear. For example, four Pokemon are banned from the competition by Game Freak. Those Pokemon being Mew, Zacian, Zamzenta, and Eternatus. Other limitations include restricting players to just 15 battles per day in the competition, so players will have to make the most of every match this weekend. Otherwise, the details are mostly obvious. Pokemon are all auto-adjusted to level 50 to ensure fairness for this first competition and both Gigantamaxing and Dynamaxing are allowed.

Galar Beginnings is just the first competition in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Players should expect many more to be run over the coming year - perhaps even one or more a month. Game Freak likely delayed this first competition to allow players to get through the games' story. Those who may have missed the registration for Galar Beginnings will likely only have to wait a matter of days before having the opportunity to register for the next competition.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
