Pokemon Sword and Shield has continued to keep its players and fans active via Max Raid events throughout the holiday season. Just as the new year settles in, a new Max Raid event that focuses on the game's Normal and Dragon type Pokemon will be live until the end of January 2021.

Max Raid events were first introduced during the launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield last November 2019. The new feature has Trainers going into Pokemon dens located in the game's Wild Area. Joining forces with other Trainers, they need to battle against and defeat Dynamax Pokemon for a chance to capture them. If lucky, Trainers could encounter a special type of Pokemon that can Dynamax into its unique Gigantamax form.

Until January 31, 2021, 23:59 UTC, Trainers will be able to encounter more Normal and Dragon-type Pokemon for the game's latest Max Raid event. The special Gigantamax Pokemon featured will be the Normal-type Snorlax and Steel/Dragon-type Duraludon. Most Trainers will have encountered Snorlax in older Pokemon games, being part of Gen 1, but Duraludon is a new Pokemon that made its first Pokedex appearance in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Duraludon and Snorlax are not new to Sword and Shield's roster of Gigantamax Pokemon. Trainers will have encountered Gigantamax Duraludon as part of the game's main story and the Gigantamax form of Snorlax was introduced after the game's launch as its own Max Raid event. Since the event will revolve around Normal and Dragon types, other Pokemon that Trainers will encounter more often in the Wild Area dens will include Axew, Bewear, Cinccino, Fraxure, Goodra, Goomy, Haxorus, Minccino, Munchlax, Sligoo, and Snorlax.

The sheer amount of content Pokemon Sword and Shield has recently released has kept its players in the game since its launch. With two separate versions of the game and two expansion packs (The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra), Trainers do not have to look far for what to do next after beating the main story. The game also offers cycling Max Raid events and an online scene for ranked battles for competitive Trainers who want to show off their most powerful Pokemon.

Pokemon Sword and Shield has also introduced a lot of Gigantamax versions of old and new Pokemon within the game. With Gigantamax form of Kanto Pokemon such as Blastoise, Charizard, and Grass-type Venusaur available, Trainers can only hope that more Gigantamax versions of their favorite Pokemon will be implemented in future updates.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is currently exclusively available for the Nintendo Switch.
