The Isle of Armor is the first expansion included in Pokemon Sword and Shield's Expansion Pass. Released on June 17, the expansion added the titular isle to the Galar region as a new explorable area. Like the Wild Area in Sword and Shield, the Isle of Armor consists of many sub-areas, each populated by different Pokemon.

The weather on the Isle of Armor also varies between each area, and changes when the date changes. As well as determining which Pokemon can appear, the weather also affects Marks, special titles Pokemon can spawn with. Finding a Pokemon with a Mark can be very difficult, but the Mark Charm special item greatly increases the odds.

Where to find a Mark Charm

When a new player first enters the Isle of Armor, they'll be stopped by a scientist at the station. This scientist will task them with collecting all the Pokemon on the Isle and adding them to the Pokedex. This is no easy task, as there are 210 in total, over 100 of which aren't available in the base game, like Miltank.

To finish the scientist's tasks, players will have to scour every corner of the Isle of Armor, discovering all its secrets and surprises. However, players who manage to catch em' all and return to the scientist with a full Pokedex will be gifted the Mark Charm for all their hard work. Presuming the player isn't tired of catching Pokemon by that point, the Mark Charm will increase the odds of all newly-caught Pokemon having Marks.

What are Marks?

Marks are a new kind of identification for Pokemon first introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Like Ribbons, they are shown on the summary screen and grant a title when that Pokemon is sent into battle. Unlike Ribbons, however, Marks are randomly set when Pokemon are caught, and can't be added or changed.

The odds of a Pokemon having a Mark mostly range from 1 in 50 to 1 in 100, depending on the type of Mark. However, the Mark Charm can increase these odds to 3 in 50 or 3 in 100 instead. While most Marks are simply random, some are dictated by certain conditions. For example, a Pokemon that was caught in the camp after cooking curry will always have the Curry Mark. Others are weather-based, like there being a 1 in 50 chance of a Pokemon caught during Fog having the Misty Mark.

Pokemon Sword & Shield are both currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
