Only yesterday were fans of the Pokemon series treated to a new Nintendo Direct centered all around the upcoming Switch titles, Pokemon Sword and Shield. Despite the Direct only being fifteen minutes long, it revealed a tonne of exciting details, including new creatures to catch, raid battles, and the Dynamax feature that can make Pokemon giant-sized. Unsurprisingly, the new footage has only made some fans desperate for more, and some have already begun speculating about when we'll see it. In fact, one fan believes they've already figured out the date for the next Direct.

Twitter user ActualAero suggests that the Direct will air on August 31st. While on it's own, it simply sounds like guesswork, they do have their reasons for believing it'll be on that date, and it comes from the numbers worn on the back of certain characters' clothes. In the new Pokemon Sword and Shield footage, when the player character faces off against Gym Leader Milo, both are wearing football player-like uniforms. And on the back of Milo's is the number 831, which could be read as 8/31, August 31st.

This could be attributed to just grasping at straws, but ActualAero also points out that the player character's number is 65, which matches the date that the recent Direct aired, June 5th. And on top of that, in the announcement trailer, the player's uniform number was 227. That trailer released on 2/27, February 27th. This is either some amazing planning on The Pokemon Company's part or a very weird series of coincidences.

It should be noted that, at the end of the day, this is only a theory and not concrete information, so fans should refrain from marking this down in their calendars. Though if anyone is that desperate to learn more, a recent 4chan post has apparently leaked more new Pokemon, including the evolutions for the Starter Pokemon. It comes from the same source that accurately predicted some of the information revealed in the recent Direct, so its arguably rather reliable.

In the meantime, we can all look forward to Nintendo's E3 Direct, which will air next week on Tuesday, June 11th at 9am PT. We probably won't see Sword & Shield make an appearance, but rumors suggest that Nintendo have a bevy of games to announce and that it will last around 45 minutes.

Pokemon Sword & Shield will release on Nintendo Switch on November 15th.
