Pokemon Sword and Shield has epic Gym battles like every main series Pokemon game that has come before it, but things are a bit different this time around. Trainers step into enormous stadiums and rock a jersey as they battle their way through the ranks (and eventually beat the game and earn a Master Ball). Naturally, it wouldn't be a competitive sport without a stylish uniform.

As trainers advance through Pokemon Sword and Shield they will unlock addition stadium uniforms, but during the main battles they will always revert back to their original jersey uniform. Players have a chance to select a number to be printed on the back of their jersey very early in the game and some trainers have been wondering if they can change that for future battles.

Players will be asked to select a number for their jersey before they enter the stadium for the Gym Challenge in Motostoke. Be sure to pick wisely, because it turns out players are stuck with this number for the rest of the game. There is absolutely no way to change the number at this point, but be sure to select one that you actually like and don't mind staring at when your character is wearing their jersey in the game.

It's possible that a future patch may change this limitation, but for now it seems like players are definitely stuck with the first number that they pick. Players who want to see a different number on the back of their jersey will have to restart the game entirely. That's definitely not an idea option though, especially for Pokemon trainers who have made a ton of money in the game.
