Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon have completely revitalized the Pokemon franchise in a way that many gamers didn't think was possible after twenty years. Although there were a number of innovations made to the series that catapulted it back into gaming relevance, however, it was the change in location and aesthetic that has made Pokemon Sun and Moon feel like a natural evolution of the series. Fans the world over have remarked on the new games' colorful and fun new Pokemon, and now Nintendo has announced one of the most hotly anticipated new Pokemon will finally be made available soon - the mythical Pokemon Marshadow is coming to Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.
Pokemon trainers have known about Marshadow since early November, when Pokemon Sun and Moon's Z-moves were revealed and the creature's "Soul Stealing 7-Star Strike" was first showcased. Since then, however, gamers have been left wondering about when they will finally have a chance to add Marshadow to their team, and the teaser video featured below promises it will show up sooner rather than later. That makes sense, since Marshadow is set to feature in the next Pokemon movie, which releases in Japan in mid-July.
While it remains to be seen whether or not Marshadow will make a splash competitively, the creature's gloomy look and adorable features have made it a fan favorite already. Although a Ghost/Fighting-type is a strange hybrid that isn't seen in the series that often, it doesn't necessarily mean it will be powerful - Pokemon Sun and Moon's meta has been pretty strictly defined so far, with the only major shake-ups coming from the professional Pokemon player bannings that happened a few months ago.
Marshadow will mark the first mythical Pokemon released for Sun and Moon since Magearna appeared way back in December, and Nintendo has indicated that it has no plans to make Marshadow capturable through normal gameplay. That means it will likely follow Magearna's lead as a mythical Pokemon offered via QR code online or at select retail locations.
Players looking for something to do while waiting for Marshadow can still check out Pokemon Sun and Moon's global missions, although that feature of the games hasn't been doing particularly well. Still, players have finally begun completing them, which could be an indicator that, by the time Marshadow finally arrives, Pokemon Sun and Moon might sneak it in as part of a global event to keep players engaged.
Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon are available now for Nintendo 3DS.
