Every Pokemon game has its own mechanics, setting it apart from other mainline games in Game Freak's series. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet added the ability to terastallize Pokemon, which was a huge deal; it opened hundreds of new paths in the competitive scene due to its versatility, and it also allowed fans to participate in Tera Raids, which are battles against powerful Pokemon taking place in a different dimension.

Tera Raid events have been a success in the past, allowing fans to catch rare Pokemon with unique Tera-types. A new Tera Raid event has just started in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and it's only available for a limited amount of time, so fans interested in catching these exclusive Pokemon can take a look at this guide to learn how.

How To Participate In The Tera Raid Battle Event

Throughout this event, players will be able to catch never before seen Paradox Legendary Pokemon. This is a 7-Star Raid Battle event which means that to meet the requirements to enter it, players will have to complete the main story of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, beat all gym rematches and the Academy Ace tournament, and finish at least ten 4-Star Raid Battles (or higher.)

The event will be live for a few days, so gamers that haven't completed all these steps yet have some time to do so. The event started today, February 27, at 10 AM ET and lasts until March 12 at 7:59 PM ET - it'll last about two weeks.

The event became available right after the release of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's 1.2.0 update. This means that besides meeting the abovementioned requirements, gamers will also have to update their game to the latest version. If the player's Nintendo Switch is already connected to the internet, the update for the Poke Portal News section will be automatically downloaded; if that's not the case, they will have to open their menu, visit the Poke Portal, select Mystery Gift, and then check for Poke Portal News.

How To Catch Walking Wake And Iron Leaves

At the moment, the only way to acquire these Pokemon is by battling them while the event is live and then capturing them. Players can only catch one of each Pokemon per system for now, but in the future, they may return for other events.

Walking Wake, the Paradox counterpart of Suicune, can only be encountered in Pokemon Scarlet, and it'll always spawn with a Water Tera-type; Iron Leaves, Virizion's Paradox counterpart, can only be challenged in Pokemon Violet, and it'll always be a Psychic Tera-Type.

The only way to catch the Pokemon exclusive to the other version of the game is to battle online with other players that own the opposite version. Unfortunately, online access is behind a paywall, and only players with a Nintendo Switch Online membership can enter online Tera Raid battles with other players; it can still be done through local play, however.

Members of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service can either invite their friends to help or reach out to the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet online community. Browsing online forums and social media is a guaranteed way to find a helpful squad to help take down these types of challenges. Although trying this solo makes it so players don't have to deal with connectivity issues or AFK teammates, it makes the raid significantly harder.

Offense

High-ranked Tera Raid battles added a whole new level of difficulty to the Pokemon franchise. Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are both Level 75 Pokemon with powerful moves, so they certainly won't be a one-hit KO. Attempting the raid with friends can make this task much easier since it provides a way to chat and formulate a strategy in real-time.

To ensure the player successfully completes the raid, they should take a Pokemon with a type advantage. The player has to make sure that the Pokemon they've decided to take with them to the Tera Raid Battle has learned many advantageous type moves, and they must use as many strong offensive attacks as possible.

This must be done until its health has gone down to zero, and a Poke Ball can be thrown at it.

  • Dragon- and Fairy-Type moves will work great against Walking Wake
  • Fire-, Ice-, Flying-, Ghost- and Dark-type moves will be best against Iron Leaves.

Defense

Not fainting immediately and surviving a long time is just as important in a Tera Raid Battle. Players should know what to expect when going into this battle, so they can bring along the right Pokemon. These are the moves that Walking Wake and Iron Leaves know:

When entering battle, Walking Wake will immediately trigger Sunny Day and activate its Protosynthesis ability, which increases its highest stat (Sp. Attack) by 30 percent.

Walking Wake is a particularly dangerous Pokemon in the sun. Sunny Day activates its ability and increases the power of Fire-type moves. In order to best defend themselves, players attempting this raid might want to consider taking a Pokemon that changes weather conditions.

When entering battle, Iron Leaves will immediately trigger Electric Terrain and activate its Quark Drive ability, increasing its highest stat (Attack) by 30 percent.

Iron Leaves is an extremely powerful physical attacker when Electric Terrain is active. Its ability increases its Attack stat, and since it only knows physical attack moves, it'll always use boosted moves. Players should be sure to take a Pokemon that can change the terrain; this is best done with a Pokemon that can learn a terrain status move rather than one that has the ability to do so since they might want to re-enable a terrain later on in the match.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
