A new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer has come and gone, with many fans obsessing over the new Lechonk pig Pokemon, the co-op features, the new legendaries, and more. However, perhaps one key detail flew beneath many fans' radars as they looked for new reveals and major announcements.

When Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were first revealed, many debated over which food Fuecoco was based on. While many saw an apple, others argued it was a pepper. The leafage and bulbous shape, as well as the face looking like an apple with a bite out of it, led the former to their beliefs. Otherwise, some general designs such as Fuecoco’s tail has led many to believe it was some form of ghost pepper.

This is important for two reasons. First, it’s obvious from his name and design that his primary elements are fire (fuego) and crocodile (cocodrilo), yet any secondary traits could inform how Fuecoco involves. Many, on the assumption that it was a pepper, have believed Fuecoco would become a Fire/Ghost-type. However, if it was based on an apple, that would indicate less physical outside some association with food.

Now, it seems the great Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Fuecoco food debate has been settled. The latest trailer gave fans their first look at the new starters in-game by showing them off with their natural elements—Quaxly was in the pond and Sprigatito among some flowers. Fuecoco wasn’t shown with some fiery terrain, nor with a bunch of peppers, but was instead showcased right next to a fruit that looks like an apple or a peach. It could be an apple, but the red is not strong enough and the bottom is more cuvered. However, some apples are more shaped like this, but either way this would suggest Fuecoco’s secondary design element is perhaps more of a generalized fruit, perhaps leaning toward apple.

As to what this means for its design, ultimately, it’s hard to tell. Just because Fuecoco is not solely based on a pepper, perhaps being just an apple or something more indicative of a festival, does not mean it won’t be a Fire/Ghost type. In fact, that’s still the leading speculation right now.

Riddler Khu, who is one of the most reliable Pokemon leakers out there (having got details on Arceus, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, Scarlet, and Violet correct), recently posted a new riddle hinting at the final evolution types. On the assumption Riddler’s community broke down the riddle correctly, it suggests that Sprigatito will be a Grass/Dark-type (not the Grass/Fairy-type some hoped for), Fuecoco will still be a Fire/Ghost-type, and Quaxly will be a Water/Fighting-type. Of course, what they look like remains to be seen, but fans can only wait idly by for that information.
