Thunderbolt remains one of the best moves around in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and players can get the Thunderbolt TM to teach it to a variety of Pokemon. The electric attack offers damage, accuracy, and a chance to paralyze opponents, making it a reliable move.

Some things never change in Pokemon. The power of the Thunderbolt move is among that list, with the move being a great offensive option all the way from Pokemon Red & Blue in the 1990s to today with Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The move remains a part of the game to this day, with players able to teach it to many of their favorite Pokemon by using a Thunderbolt TM.

The addition of crafting with the TM Machine in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet shakes things up in terms of how players have to approach TMs, though. The TM can be unlocked without much trouble, and from there, players can get their Pokemon ready to wipe out flying and water Pokemon.

Where to Find Thunderbolt TM in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Players can find the Thunderbolt TM in the area surrounding the city of Porto Marinada. The TM is found on the ground south of the Pokemon Center that lies east of the city and can be found right before battling water-type gym leader Kofu. The exact location can be seen here:

To get it, simply travel to the Porto Marinada Pokemon Center, then follow the nearby path that leads to the city. Along the path is an orange sign that reads “Porto Marinada.” Instead of following the path further, head left along the cliff. Follow it to find a clearing that has an assortment of wild Pokemon. Continue onward along the edge of this area until finding the Thunderbolt TM on the ground.

After getting this TM, Thunderbolt is unlocked for crafting in the TM Machine. It can be made by using 10,000 LP, five Pachirisu Fur, three Tadbulb Mucus, and three Pichu Furs.

In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Thunderbolt is TM 126. The move retains stats it had in Pokemon Sword & Shield, with 90 power, 100% accuracy, and 15 PP. Though it isn’t made explicit, it also retains a 10% chance to paralyze the Pokemon it hits.

Should Pokemon Use Thunderbolt or Thunder?

Thunderbolt is safer to use than Thunder in most of the situations that arise in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This stems from Thunderbolt’s 100% accuracy compared with Thunder’s 70% accuracy. Especially in five and six-star Tera Raid battles where Pokemon need to land their moves in order to Terastallize, that accuracy is vital.

The one situation where Thunder is preferred is in double battles on rain teams. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s weather effects can impact moves’ accuracy. When rain is active, all electric moves have 100% accuracy, making Thunder reliable.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
