Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have announced the release dates for two Tera Raid Battle Events that will run throughout late November and early December. These events will allow players to obtain Eevee and Charizard with special tera types when playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Tera types will be replacing gigantamax and dynamax forms as Pokemon's latest gimmick when Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are released worldwide on November 18, 2022. After terastallizing, a Pokemon's typing will change to that of its Tera-type, granting it a powerful same-type attack bonus (STAB) and removing any weaknesses that may have come as a result of its original typing. For example, a Charizard with a tera type of Dragon will become purely dragon, losing its previous fire/flying dual typing and empowering dragon moves. Referred to officially as the Terastal phenomenon, tera types are sure to be a defining factor of competitive battling within Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Taking the form of the same raid battles previously seen within Pokemon Sword and Shield, the first Tera Raid Battle event for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will run from 25 November 2022, at 12:00 a.m. to 27 November 2022, at 11:59 p.m. GMT. During this time, there will be increased odds for players to encounter Eevee with special tera types during Tera Raid Battles.

A second Tera Raid Battle event has also been announced, featuring a powerful Charizard, a seven-star raid boss with the tera type of Dragon. This event will run twice - from December 1, 2022, at 4:00 p.m to December 4, 2022, at 3:59 p.m PST, and then from December 15, 2022, at 12:00 a.m. to December 18, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. GMT. During this time, players will be able to head to a Black Crystal and have a chance to encounter this special Charizard. However, it must be known that Pokemon caught in seven-star Tera Raid Battles are very strong and possess the "Mightiest Mark," an icon which appears on its status summary. Players can only catch one of each Pokemon possessing this mark per save file.

While many Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans are excited by the possibility of catching a special Eevee and being able to choose whichever Eeveelution best compliments its tera type, Charizard's reveal has not been met with the same overwhelmingly positive reception. Some players are tired of Charizard receiving preferential treatment over other starters within the franchise, already being one of only two Pokemon to have two mega evolutions. However, it remains undeniable that Charizard is a well-loved Pokemon by the community at large, and that many will be thankful for the opportunity to catch one with the dragon tera type.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
