Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are less than three months from launch, and yet, only 12 new Pokemon of the Paldean Pokedex have been confirmed. Given that reliable leaks suggest there are about 109 new Pokemon in the region, that seems to be incredibly odd. However, perhaps Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have decided it's time to more heavily market the new creatures coming to the games.

The official Pokemon Twitter account recently shared a Scarlet and Violet teaser, which shows a forest painted with what seem like archery circles and other simplistic designs. Lore-wise, the account suggests that these images were captured by a Paldean photographer, with the images getting a lot of attention from its region's citizens. Of course, this tease, as seen below, has a lot of fans talking about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

It seems this is likely a tease for a painted forest location within Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Paldea region. This makes sense given the region's connection to Spain, and the fact that the Oma Forest, a real-life painted forest, is located in the Basque country (a region on the Bay of Biscay, located between Southern France and Northern Spain). It'll be interesting to visit in-game, for sure, but this poses the question of what painted these trees.

Immediately, many Pokemon fans jumped to Smeargle as the "Painter Pokemon." However, based on all-known Pokemon Scarlet and Violet leaks, Smeargle is not in the Paldean Pokedex. There is another explanation, of course, based on leaks revealed so far. All leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, but these come way of reliable sources like Riddler Khu and Kaka. Therefore, anyone not wanting more than the official teaser should TURN BACK NOW.

Potential Spoilers AHEAD

According to a massive Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex leak, there is a Pokemon that has yet to be revealed currently called a "spray lemur." It is likely that the Pokemon responsible for painting this forest is this spray lemur. After all, lemurs often live on a forest floor and many of these paintings are low to the ground. Furthermore, shortly after this tease, Khu posted "aiai" which is likely a reference to the aye-aye species of lemur.

While this is just speculation on leaks, Khu has said there would be a number of "Regional fakes" in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and yet only two are really known: Diglett and Tentacruel. It's possible then that this spray lemur is a regional fake who could appear a lot like Smeargle, despite not actually being Smeargle. It all remains to be seen, of course, but hopefully Game Freak and The Pokemon Company shed some light on this teaser soon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release on November 18 for the Switch.
