A new trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has given fans a glimpse at Deerling's Autumn form, prompting discussion as to whether players will see seasons returning to the game. While the seasonal mechanic was introduced with the Pokemon Black and White games and hasn't been seen since other than in Pokemon GO, many nostalgic players have been eager to see the return of seasons for years and hope to see the feature come back in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

First introduced with Generation 5, seasons allowed players to enjoy some diversity in their Pokemon world all year round. Seasons in the game would coincide with the current season in real life, and would prompt effects such as days beginning and ending at different times, different weather in certain locations, different wild Pokemon encounters and much more. On top of this the Pokemon Deerling and its evolution, Sawsbuck, both change their forms according to the current season in the game.

A Reddit post from the user charliechan55555 shares the most recent trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet with the post's title positing the idea of seasons returning in the new game due to a brief look at an Autumn-form Deerling. The latest trailer released just two days ago on the official Nintendo of Japan YouTube channel, which has not yet been released on any other Nintendo channel or in any other language. The keen-eyed fan caught a glimpse of the Deerling at about 10 seconds into the video, where the little critter can be spotted through the grass in the background.

While the appearance of this little Pokemon doesn't necessarily confirm that seasons will once again be a feature in the Paldea region, they would surely bring a lot more life and diversity to the Pokemon world. Aside for the simple change of scenery every so often, it would allow players to enjoy slight variations to content throughout the year, and could even provide a foundation for developers to build on in terms of introducing new features over time.

Fans are at odds on whether seasons really will return, though. Some players think it will be far more likely for Deerling to be encountered in its different forms by finding them in different areas, such as how the Pokemon Oricorio can be found in its four different forms in different locations around the Alola region in Pokemon Sun and Moon. After all, previous information for Scarlet and Violet has revealed that Paldea will be a large and diverse region in terms of Pokemon and environments. Whether or not seasons will return with the next installment is unclear, but what is known is that Pokemon fans have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be available on Nintendo Switch from November 18.
