Game Freak and Nintendo revealed Pokemon Scarlet and Violet earlier this year with a trailer that showcased the new starter Pokemon and open world gameplay. A few months later, a second trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet dropped, with this one revealing even more Pokemon, the box art legendaries, 4-player co-op, and more. When it comes to the basic information about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, fans know pretty much all they need to know now, though one big question remains.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has revealed the professors, a handful of new Pokemon, the box art legendaries, and various gameplay details, but for one reason or another, it still has yet to announce the region where the new games will take place. Game Freak and Nintendo are usually pretty quick when it comes to detailing the new region for any given Pokemon game, so it's surprising to some that there still isn't a name for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet region.

A name for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet region will apparently have to wait for later, but in the meantime, fans have been able to make a pretty good guess about what real world country the new region will be based on. Based on the clues that fans have spotted in the two Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailers that have released so far, it's highly likely that the new region, whatever it ends up being called, is based on Spain.

There are various clues pointing to Spain being the inspiration for the new region in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and the latest trailer included yet another hint in that direction. One of the new Pokemon revealed for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in the latest trailer was the Normal-type pig Pokemon Lechonk, and as it turns out, Lechonk is actually a pretty big clue about the new region's real-world inspiration.

The Spanish word Lechon means suckling pig or piglet, making Lechonk a pun on a Spanish word. It stands to reason that the only reason The Pokemon Company would do this is if Lechonk's home region was based on Spain, though it has yet to be officially stated by anyone involved in the games' development.

More information on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should come to light in the weeks ahead. The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release date is mere months away, and so fans can expect to learn more about the new region in the near future.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
