Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may not have been out for long, but players who have completed the games are eager to continue their journey with DLC. The Pokemon Company nor Game Freak has yet to announce expansion passes for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but that hasn't stopped fans from speculating where the ninth generation is heading.

One region that has been on the minds of many is Kalos from Pokemon X and Y. It's one of the few regions to have never been revisited in the mainline series, and seeing as there are a ton of hints dotted around Paldea to the region's existence it's likely that future DLC will bring the focus back on the French-inspired area.

10 Paldea May Be Joined To Kalos Like France And Spain

When looking at the in-game map for Scarlet and Violet, there are two shaded areas, but only one is accessible. For some unknown reason, the Great Crater of Paldea doesn't show up on the map even when the player is in there. There's another grayed-out portion to the upper northeast of the map. But unlike the Great Crater, this area is completely inaccessible and is blocked off by a mountain. Even if players try to enter the site on land or by sea, an invisible wall prevents them from doing so.

If Scarlet and Violet follow in the footsteps of Pokemon Sword and Shield in terms of DLC, this is likely where it will take place. And seeing as this area is split by a mountain range, this could be a major hint that Kalos is on the other side, seeing as the border between Spain and France is straddled by the Pyrenees.

9 Scarlet And Violet's DLC Could Be In Southern France

Kalos is based in Northern France, leaving a big gap between its border and Paldea. While many fans would love to see Northern Kalos again, it's more likely that Southern Kalos will appear with towns inspired by Bordeaux, Nice, and Monte Carlo.

The DLC area may not even be Kalos at all, as Twitter user SoulSilverArt notes that Barcelona, Catalonia, and Andorra are not included in the current Paldea map. If these Spanish cities were to appear in DLC, the zoned-off area's location would make sense geographically.

8 Many Pokemon From Kalos Have Made A Home In Paldea

Of the 400 Pokemon in Paldea, 28 are initially found in Kalos. While this number is lower than the nearly 40 Pokemon from Johto that appear in Scarlet and Violet, it's still a considerable amount to appear in a brand-new region.

The majority of Kalos Pokemon that have returned are fan favorites too, including the Fletching and Goomy lines, in addition to Skiddo and Gogoat, which have made their first appearance in a mainline game since they were first introduced in X and Y without having to be traded or transferred from Pokemon Bank. Even the Vivillon players can catch in Paldea is unique, having been an event-exclusive pattern previously.

7 These Trainers And Their Pokemon Could Be A Major Hint

Pokemon Evolution Noivern Goodra Holding Hands

In Area One of the North Province, players will come across three sisters on a lake just to the left of the zoned-out region. Describing themselves as the dragon's wings, breath, and tail, Paldea, Gema, and Diana are Dragon-type trainers with a team consisting of only one Pokemon: a fully-evolved dragon type from Kalos. Paldea leads with a Noivern, Gema battles with a Dragalge, and Diana sends out a Goodra.

And while their character design is generalized to the Dragon trainer class of Paldea, they just so happen to use two of the Pokemon used by Drasna, the Dragon-type trainer of the Kalos Elite Four.

6 These Kalos Pokemon Are Mysteriously Near The Border

When traversing the land below the out-of-bounds area, players will encounter a suspicious amount of Pokemon from the Kalos region. Noibat and Noivern are very active in Area Two of the North Province at night, and Hawlucha is a common sight during the day. Floette can also be found further down the mountainous area, in addition to Gogoat and Sawsbuck.

Because some of these Pokemon can fly and traverse mountains, these Pokemon could have flown or migrated over from the yet-to-be-disclosed region on the other side.

5 Eiscue Has Traveled A Long Distance To Arrive In Paldea

Eiscue location on Paldea map

Across the North Paldean sea and beaches of the North Province, gamers will find an abundance of Eiscue while exploring Violet. Introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield, Eiscue's Pokedex entry in Violet says that the "species rode here on ocean currents from a cold, faraway land."Exclusive to Shield, Eiscue is found on Route 10, the Lake of Outrage in Galar, and the Frigid Sea in The Crown Tundra DLC.

While the Lake of Outrage is in the Wild Area, Route 10 sits in the upper portion of Galar and fits the bill for a "cold, faraway land." Eiscue's presence on the warm shores of Paldea doesn't necessarily point toward Kalos being reintroduced in Scarlet and Violet's DLC. Still, it does solidify Paldea being near Galar and, therefore, Kalos, as the three regions are collectively based on the United Kingdom, France, and Spain.

4 Pokemon X And Y Have Been Given The Least Amount Of Love

Gen 6 Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal

Unlike most Pokemon games, X and Y were never given a second set of games. Released in 2013 between Black 2 and White 2 and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, many fans were expecting a sequel in the form of Pokemon Z relating to the legendary Pokemon Zygarde introduced in generation six. Instead, Game Freak went straight into developing Pokemon Sun and Moon, leaving X and Y in the dust.

Zygarde received a significant amount of love in Pokemon Sun and Moon, with players collecting 100 Zygarde cells to create different forms of the Pokemon.

3 This Legendary Could Make A Return In Scarlet And Violet

Miraidon Zygarde Koraidon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC potential

In both the Scarlet and Violet books, there's a chapter dedicated to a "strange" disc-shaped Pokemon composed of interlocking hexagonal plates. It's theorized that this legendary Pokemon is responsible for the Terastal phenomenon, and hints at it being the third legendary of Scarlet and Violet alongside Koraidon and Miraidon.

Players have yet to see this new legendary in-game, but Redditor Torosiken_ has theorized that it may not be a new Pokemon at all. Instead, they think it could be Zygarde due to its hexagonal scales, and its "origin is never properly explained" in X & Y. Torosiken_ notes that by looking at Zygarde's "complete" form, it incorporates the colors of Koraidon and Miradon on each side of its body.

Pokemon Mega Evolution And Terastal Blaziken and Eevee

According to known Pokemon leaker Riddler Khu, there could be a connection between the Terastal and Mega Evolution gimmicks in both regions. Hinting that Mega Evolution may be returning in some form in Scarlet and Violet's DLC, some fans have speculated that if the new area is Kalos-based, the two phenomena may link in some way as they both rely on a crystal-like object: the Key Stone and Mega Stones to mega evolve, and the Tera Orb to Terrastilize.

The Pokedex description for Roaring Moon even hits at Mega Evolution, saying how the primal form of Salamence "has some connection to a phenomenon that occurs in a certain region."

1 The Kalos Starter Pokemon Could Make A Reappearance

Kalos starters Chespin Fennekin Froakie

On November 10, Twitter user MudkipLeaks listed the ten regional starters to appear in Scarlet and Violet, including Charmander and Scorbunny, who are available to catch in special Tera Raid battles by capturing Charizard and Cinderace. Other starters that will reportedly appear are Pokemon: Legends Arceus starters Cyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet, in addition to Pokemon Sword and Shield starters Scorbunny, Sobble and Grooky.

But the anomaly of the list falls on Chespin, Froakie, and Fennekin, the three starters from the Kalos region. This could either be a strange coincidence or a major hint of what's to come for Scarlet and Violet's DLC.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
