Pokemon Diamond & Pearl introduced new evolution stones and they return in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Among them was the Shiny Stone, an item that is only used sparingly but is required to evolve one specific Pokemon.

There are more items used to evolve Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet than any other game in the series. That’s not even including the large number of Pokemon like Annihilape, which evolves by using a specific move.

That number is only going to increase in the future as regional variants like Galarian Slowpoke and Pokemon Legends: Arceus cross-generation evolutions like Kleavor get added to the game. Whether it’s trading a Pokemon holding items like the Metal Coat or the tedious process of evolving a Charcadet, there are loads of evolution items to deal with. So how do players get a Shiny Stone and what do they do with it when the time comes?

Where to Find a Shiny Stone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Players can receive a free Shiny Stone by catching 150 different Pokemon. The Shiny Stone is received as reward from the Pokedex, which gives the player a variety of other rare items. Shiny Stones also have a chance of appearing at the Porto Marinada auction house.

Shiny Stones can also be found on the ground at random. A single guaranteed Shiny Stone can also be found to the northeast of Alfronada. Along the shores of a mountain lake. Here’s its exact spot on the map:

Which Pokemon Evolve with a Shiny Stone?

Four different Pokemon are known to evolve with a Shiny Stone. Of those four, just one of them is available in the base version of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The full list of Pokemon that evolve by a Shiny Stone includes:

  • Togetic
  • Roselia
  • Minccino
  • Floette

Of these four, only Floette is included in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Though there are many different Pokemon that are programmed into Scarlet & Violet but are currently uncatchable without using mods, none of the other three are included in that lot. It’s possible they may be added in the future through DLC or other updates, but it’s unclear when or if that may happen.

For the time being, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can only use a Shiny Stone to evolve Floette into Florges. That said, players don’t even necessarily need a Shiny Stone in order to add the Pokemon to their Pokedex. Florges can be found in the northern reaches of Paldea in the area surrounding Ortega’s Team Star base. It can also be encountered in five-star Tera Raid battles.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
