While the majority of pocket monsters found in the Pokemon franchise evolve through hitting certain levels, Game Freak has continued to add unique creatures to the long-running series that break that mold. The normal type creature known as Eevee is a classic example of this as players can force an evolution to a particular type based on giving it a certain stone or even evolving it during the time of day.

Outside of using evolution stones or traditional experience, some Pokemon can evolve in other ways. Riolu, a fighting type of Pokemon, requires a high friendship with the player before it'll evolve into Lucario during the day. Inside of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the new electric rodent known as Pawmi requires players to use it in Let's Go mode so it can walk 1,000 steps before it'll evolve from Pawmo to its final form of Pawmot.

As players move through the world of Paldea in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it's worth remembering that not all creature evolutions are as straightforward as hitting a specific level. Take the Playhouse Pokemon known as Happiny, which requires players to go a bit out of their way to help it evolve.

How to Evolve Happiny into Chansey

Happiny is a common early game Pokemon, located in the southern area of Paldea below the major city of Mesagoza. Thankfully, evolving this Pokemon into its second form is fairly easy as it simply requires a player to give it an Oval Stone to hold and then level it up once during the day or afternoon.

The hardest part of this will likely be tracking down an Oval Stone, which can be randomly found in the Asado Desert, but is in a fixed location in the Iono's electric gym town of Levincia. From the North entrance, head to the bridge leading to the big Pokemon arena. Right before the ramp to the bridge section, an item can be picked up next to the base of a tree near a couple of vending machines.

Players can also skip this first evolution step entirely as Chansey can be found in multiple regions of Paldea. While considered a rare spawn, players should start their search in a few different locations including the area surrounding Alfornada in the Southwest, the northern section of Glaseado Mountain, Area One of the North Province, and most of the middle section of the map above the central crater.

Now armed with the Egg Pokemon known as Chansey, players will need to work on its happiness level. While this stat is unfortunately not trackable, there are a few things that can be done to further increase happiness. For those catching a Chansey in the wild, using a Luxury Ball automatically gives it a jump start on its happiness level. Make sure to keep it in the active party, give it a Soothe Bell, and use the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet picnic feature to further increase happiness.

Certain berries can also be used to increase a Pokemon's happiness level including Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, Hondew, Grepa, and Tamato. However, using the berry method will typically lower a stat in order to increase happiness, so this trick may not be for everyone. Once their happiness level is high enough, simply level them up, and they'll evolve into the Happiness Pokemon Blissey.

Alternatively, for those who would rather not spend too much time attempting to raise Chansey's happiness level, Blissey can be found roaming in the wilds of Paldea. Players will want to head north to the Glaseado Mountain at the northernmost point or to Area One in the North Province. Keep in mind that Blissey is considered a rare encounter, so it may take some time before it is found.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
