The first completely open-world Pokemon generation is now available for fans to enjoy. Over the years, Pokemon has introduced new ways to customize the playable character (PC), and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has adopted many of these features and introduced new ones.

Of course, at the beginning of the game, players will start by choosing their default avatar. There are eight different starter looks that can be thoroughly customized. It wasn't until more recent Pokemon generations that the PC could be edited, let alone with such detail. Luckily, players can change their appearance almost anytime, so let's go over how to change hairstyles and clothes in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

How To Edit Appearance

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Change Look

As soon as Pokemon trainers get free will in the games, they can edit parts of their look. The default outfit is the academy uniform and some accessories, but the steps are simple for those who want to change things up. To open the Outfit menu, click Left on the D-pad. From there, players can choose their uniform to customize and even change their eye shape and color, lips, and blemishes.

Hairstyles and colors can not be changed from the Outfit menu.

Uniforms & Accessories

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Uniform

There are four uniform options based on the seasons:

  • Spring Uniform
  • Summer Uniform
  • Autumn Uniform
  • Winter Uniform

The Summer option is what trainers start in, or they can pick a new one. The uniforms are a mixture of jackets, shorts, pants, and shirts that can be worn regardless of the weather. Unfortunately, trainers cannot change their pants and shirts individually as students, so they are limited to premade uniforms. However, accessories can be added for more customization.

Accessories include socks, shoes, gloves, glasses, hats, backpacks, and phone cases. Players are automatically gifted one of each at the beginning of the game, but others must be bought.

Visit The Shops in Mesagoza

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Salon

Mesagoza is the first big city introduced in Scarlet & Violet and is a great spot to change hairstyles or purchase new accessories. It is also home to the academy where trainers start their journey. The city is circular and large, so sticking near the center area is the best option to avoid getting lost. There are all kinds of different shops, including restaurants, clothes stores, and a salon. Most places accept League Points (LP) or cash for goods and services.

The Salon

An important place to visit is the salon. It is the only way for players to change their hair, and it costs a pretty penny, so be prepared to pay $3000 for a hairstyling session. Hairstyling includes picking a new haircut and a color. There are more styles than at the beginning, so look through them to find the perfect look. None of the hair options are limited by gender, so players can get any short, long, or braided styles.

Clothing Stores

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Shop

Multiple clothing stores offer various accessories or specialize in one. For example, there's a shop for socks, glasses, backpacks, etc. Just looking around and visiting everywhere will lead to cool options. Everything bought can be put on immediately or accessed later from the Outfit menu. Rotom phone cases can be obtained in two ways. The first is visiting a Delibird Presents store where they are sold. The second is finding the NPC on the staircase in Mesagoza near the streetlamp. They will gift one for having saved data from any of the following four Pokemon titles:

  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus
  • Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee
  • Pokemon Sword/Shield
  • Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl

Once players venture out further they will find that Mesagoza isn't the only place that has salons and accessory shops. Levincia to the East of Mesagoze and Cascarrafa to the West also have many clothing stores and salons to visit with even more options.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is available for the Nintendo Switch.
