Pokemon Scarlet and Violet present one of the most compelling stories in the franchise including some of the most well-rounded character development in a Pokemon game to date. However, some of the deeper lore surrounding the Paldea Region and its mysteries is somewhat hidden behind optional in-game tasks. While the three main storylines for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet give players some background into the Paldea's history, the real meat of its lore comes from taking the history class with Ms. Raifort at the games' Naranja/Uva Academy, which ends up revealing some details with serious implications for the series' timeline.

School plays a central role in the plot of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet with players taking part in the Academy's annual Treasure Hunt as a part of its curriculum. While the majority of the game focuses on traveling around the region following three main quests, player have the option to attend classes back at the Academy. These classes are not required, but offer some worthwhile rewards for completing them through their midterms and final tests, with the history class in particular offering some tidbits of lore that aren't otherwise touched upon by the games' main story.

A Lot of Additional Lore Can Be Found in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's History Class

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Version Exclusive Paradox Forms

Each class players attend in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has six sessions, as well as a midterm and final exam that will unlock as players complete portions of the games' main story. While the subjects include courses on biology, home economics, math, languages, and battle studies, it's the history class that is the most worth paying attention to for players interested in the lore of the Paldea region and the greater Pokemon universe. The history teacher, Ms. Raifort, has a clear passion for the region's past and the founding of the Paldean Empire which can be seen in the types of questions she will quiz players on during her lessons.

The first day of class with Ms. Raifort reveals the ancient rumor that a great treasure is hidden in the depths of Area Zero. It's not clear what exactly this treasure refers to, but it's likely to play a key role in the DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet titled The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. Another important piece of ancient history she shares during the second session of class is the founding of the Paldean Empire, which took place 2,000 years ago, adding to the timeline of Pokemon history that games like Pokemon X and Y, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus helped develop.

Later on in the course, Raifort discusses the founding of the Academy just over 800 years ago, establishing it as a longstanding institution of the region. Following the midterm, she will teach players about the history of the Treasure of Ruin, four corrupted treasures that were acquired by an ancient king of Paldea. Progressing Ms. Raifort's quest line will lead players to uncover Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Legendary Quartet of Ruin, the four creatures said to have awakened from these cursed objects.

The final lessons cover more recent history surrounding expeditions into the Great Crater of Paldea and Area Zero that began around 200 years prior to the events of the games. Raifort discusses the leader of the first expedition, Heath, as well as the role Professor Sada and Turo would play in developing Tera Orbs over the past decade from the data gathered from these historic expeditions. While Sada and Turo get a lot of screen time, not much is known about Heath aside from the fact that he is the author of the Scarlet Book and Violet Book and was the first to bring the Herba Mystica outside of Area Zero. That potentially sets him up to play a more prominent role in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC.
