New fan art gives Greavard from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet a retro look inspired by the Gen 2 games Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. While the pocket monster is part of the upcoming Gen 9 Pokemon games, this artwork shows that its design fits nicely into one of the series’ older art styles as well.

Revealed in a recent trailer, Greavard is the latest Pokemon to be announced for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While it is appropriate that a new Ghost-type would be unveiled before Halloween, Greavard has an appearance that is not that scary. In fact, this Ghost Dog Pokemon actually looks quite adorable, as it features a long grayish coat with a candle on top of its head. While the new Pokemon was just officially announced, gamers are already making fan art based on its design.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as The_Internet_Goblin revealed they had made Greavard in an alternate art style. Gone was its 3D design from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and in its place was a 2D aesthetic similar to the sprites seen in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. In the image, Greavard had roughly the same shape, color, and shaggy coat it had in its reveal trailer, albeit in a much lower resolution. In addition, the artist included the dog’s signature candlestick on top of its head. To finish the artwork, the fan art had a pleasant-looking frame, and Greavard was against a light green background.

With many gamers excited about this latest Pokemon reveal for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, a number of them have taken notice of the artwork made by The_Internet_Goblin. Interestingly, several users thought that the design of Greavard reminded them of the cartoon dog Scooby-Doo. "Something about Greavard’s design gives me old school Scooby Doo vibes," one user commented. In addition to being impressed with the art, another gamer said that they were surprised at how fast the artist completed the design, considering the trailer for Greavard came out only a few hours before the fan art had been posted.

While the new design for Greavard has already inspired talented artists like The_Internet_Goblin, gamers still do not know everything about the upcoming Pokemon. For example, it is unknown what its evolutions are. However, fans learned in its reveal trailer that this Ghost Dog Pokemon has the peculiar habit of burrowing underground so that only the candle-like object on its head is visible. In addition, the video showed that the Pokemon can suck the life out of those that play with it despite its friendly disposition.

There have now been quite a few new Pokemon announced for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Beyond this latest reveal for Greavard, the games still do not release for a few more weeks, meaning even more pocket monsters could be announced for the roster in the coming days. Along with more potential reveals, it seems likely that even more fan art will start to pop up on social media.
