Pokemon Scarlet and Violet bring fun features and surprises to Pokemon fans all over the world. There are over 100 new Pokemon for trainers to catch and travel Paldea with, including more Ghost-types which historically have the least amount of 'Mons out of all the types. Greavard was the first Ghost-type from Generation 9 to be introduced and immediately caught the eye of dog lovers with its canine design.

Who's Greavard?

Greavard is referred to as the "Ghost Dog Pokemon" and is found in many corners of the Paldea region. It has a long shaggy gray coat and a candle on top of its head. In the wild, it will bury itself underground to where only the candle will be visible and will leap out and greet passersby. Despite Ghost-type Pokemon being known for their mischievous temperaments, Greavard is said to be an incredibly friendly Pokemon who wants companionship. After catching one, players may wonder what level it will evolve into Houndstone, but a new level is not the only requirement for it to change forms. So, here is everything players need to know to catch Greavard and evolve it in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Greavard Location

Players can get ahold of Greavard as soon as the Academy Treasure Hunt begins. However, it does not frequent the areas surrounding Mesagoza, so finding it requires some venturing out and crossing a river to the northern parts of Paldea.

Getting there depends on if Miraidon's (or Koraidon's) abilities have been upgraded. When Miraidon first becomes a companion, it can be ridden like a bike to travel faster. Eventually, it gains the ability to fly, dash, swim, and jump high so that players can get anywhere quickly. Otherwise, cut through the city of Levincia and head towards the Ghost-type user Ryme's Gym.

Greavard can be found all over the place in the northeast area, especially near Glaseado Mountain. Snow will cover the ground up north, so finding them is not as easy using its white candle as the only reference. Ghost-types are weak to other Ghost-types and Dark, so be prepared when challenging it to a match. Greavard's locations include the following provinces:

  • North Province (Area One, Area Three)
  • West Province (Area Three)

How to Evolve Greavard into Houndstone

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Houndstone

While most Pokemon will evolve at a specific level, this is not the case with Greavard, and its transformation into Houndstone requires another condition to be met. First, Greavard must be level 30+ before it gets the ability to evolve.

Pokemon will level up as they earn experience points (EXP) from trainer battles, Gym challenges, or even edibles like Rare and Exp. Candy. The candies can be found by picking up items on the ground or hitting Tera Raid battles and defeating the Tera Pokemon inside.

Once Greavard hits level 30, it will then be able to evolve into Houndstone when its second condition is also met; Greavard must be leveled up at night for it to turn into Houndstone. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet have a 30 minute day/night cycle, so luckily, players will only have a short wait before they can evolve Greavard.

Houndstone can learn an exciting move introduced in Gen 9 called Last Respects. Last Respects is a Ghost-type damaging move with a base Power stat of 50 that increases by 50 for every fainted Pokemon in the user's party.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available for the Nintendo Switch.
