This past week has been a rollercoaster ride for Pokemon fans. New leakers within the community have shared a tidal wave of information regarding Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Virtually none of it has been officially confirmed, but reliable leakers have said a significant amount of it is accurate. Pokemon fans are anxious to find out the truth, though, straight from Nintendo and Game Freak. With that in mind, the fervor over when the next Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer will be released is reaching a new high.

A thread on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet subreddit has proven ripe ground for speculation regarding when the next official trailer will be dropped. The Reddit post is broadcasting one theory from user OleBroseph that many Pokemon fans think could prove accurate. The theory revolves around pre-order dates and past trends from Nintendo, pointing to a possible event on August 3.

The theory works like this. For Pokemon Legends Arceus, the Japanese promotional website for the game listed pre-orders as unlocking on August 19. A Pokemon Presents event was then held on August 18. Logic serves that a Pokemon Presents event could be held the day before pre-orders open for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, too. Coincidentally, the Japanese promotional website for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet lists August 4 as the date when physical pre-orders for the games will begin.

Not only is there evidence of Nintendo using a similar schedule in the past, but it's simple enough to believe that Nintendo would want to make a big advertising push ahead of pre-orders opening. It's a great way of boosting initial pre-order sales, after all. August 3 also falls on a Wednesday, the same day of the week that Nintendo released the Pokemon Legends Arceus Pokemon Presents video.

It's all just a theory, of course. There's no reason to believe Nintendo will release a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer one week versus another. After all, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are releasing much earlier than Pokemon games typically do. Also, Pokemon games traditionally have trailers shown during E3, which Nintendo has skipped so far. The cadence of marketing for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is already off, but if one had to choose a theory then August 3 is a good one.

What is true is that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are releasing on November 18, just four months from now. It's going to be Nintendo's biggest Switch-exclusive game release of the holiday season, if not all of 2022. It's also certain to receive a significant amount of marketing between now and then, including multiple trailers. It's just a matter of time if Pokemon fans can remain patient.
