The announcement of Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet's Legendary Pokemon has created a very spicy discourse among fans. Koraidon and Miraidon, much like the Pokemon Professors Sada and Turo, are split between what's being looked at as "Ancient" and "Future" forms. Pokemon fans then posit that it only makes sense for other Pokemon to follow in Koraidon and Miraidon's footsteps. That means that Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet could feature both Ancient and Future regional Pokemon variants.

For those unfamiliar with Japanese, Koraidon and Miraidon make the association with past and future very simple. The word "korai" in Japanese means "ancient," and the word "mirai" means "future." This is also mostly clear just based on the Legendary Pokemons' aesthetic, with Miraidon being a robotic dragon with jet engines. Koraidon is less overtly ancient, but does look more natural based on its plumes and antennae.

Similarly, the Pokemon Professors for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet's names also match up also reflect this dichotomy of past and future. Professor Sada's name in Spanish is taken from "pasada," which means "past." Professor Turo's name is taken from the Spanish word "future," which obviously means future. Professor Sada has also been described as having a "cavewoman" style with leather sandals, ragged tears on her clothing, and even fangs. Professor Turo, in turn, is wearing what looks like some sort of futuristic bodysuit. He looks like he's from Tron.

It makes a lot of sense that if this past/future theme is so consistent across the board that it would also cross over to Pokemon. Game Freak even has options for it. It could make Ancient forms for Pokemon that fit the theme already and Future forms for Pokemon that make sense. Alternatively, Game Freak could pick some appropriate Pokemon and make both Ancient and Future forms for them.

One other option that Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet could employ is to create a new style of Mega Evolution or a different style of Gigantamax feature. Game Freak would be able to create some new forms that are larger than life, though additional regional forms always popular, too.

It's exciting to think just how many possibilities have been created from the reveals of Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet's Legendary Pokemon and Professors. These reveals in past Pokemon generations, while fun in their own right, haven't carried such dramatic weight to them. As for whether any of Pokemon fans' theories turn out true, they'll find out in the months to come.
