Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have launched their first Tera Raid event featuring Eevees sporting a variety of Tera types for a limited time. The newest generation of the massively popular monster-catching franchise brought with it the newest unique combat mechanic with Terastallization, a mysterious phenomenon that affects a Pokemon's type. The mechanic not only allows Pokemon to strengthen their own types, but can also allow them to change their types entirely with different Tera Types. Now, The Pokemon Company is launching its first special event for Tera Raids.

The introduction of Terastal Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has already brought with it plenty of interesting ideas for the game's combat. The game's Gym Leaders feature a signature Pokemon that Terastallizes during their battle and often use the mechanic to change other Pokemon's types to fit their own Gym's theme. The mechanic has several combat implications as well, with Pokemon confirmed to retain their original type's "STAB" attack bonus as well as gaining the benefits of their new type. Now, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is giving trainers a chance to snag Eevees with special Tera Types.

Game Freak and The Pokemon Company officially unveiled Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's first Tera Raid Battle event on Friday, dubbed the "Eevee Spotlight." During the event, Scarlet and Violet's Tera Raid Dens will see increased appearances from the iconic first-generation Pokemon sporting a variety of different types. The event is confirmed, however, to only be running for a limited time with a short window for finding Eevees with special Tera Types. The event began on Friday, November 25th and is set to run through the weekend with the final day coming on Sunday, November 27th.

Eevee's history throughout the monster-catching franchise makes the Pokemon an obvious choice for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's first event surrounding the type-changing mechanic. Each of Eevee's evolutions features a different type with multiple new evolutions being added throughout Pokemon's run, most recently with the Fairy-type Sylveon in Pokemon X and Y. Eevee has also been a heavily featured mascot Pokemon for the franchise, appearing in most games and even as a mascot Pokemon in Pokemon Let's Go Eevee.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's launch has seen mixed reception from the franchise's passionate fans since its launch last week. While the games have seen praise for new gameplay mechanics and changes to some core elements of the franchise, Scarlet and Violet's performance has been heavily criticized. Glitches have been rampant in Scarlet and Violet with many fans online showing off a variety of technical errors within the games. Despite the issues, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have debuted to record-breaking sales numbers for Nintendo and will look to build on that success.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for Nintendo Switch.
