Pokemon Scarlet and Violet presented a refreshing new take on the Pokemon franchise, and have received a lot of attention for it. While the games are plagued by technical issues, the melding of a complete open world with a traditional Pokemon title has been a success. This is owed in some part to the interesting characters who inhabit Scarlet and Violet's Paldea region, and whom the player gets to interact with across three game-spanning storylines. It all makes for a memorable Pokemon adventure, and the climax is especially intense.

Playing off of that, there are a lot of mysteries surrounding Scarlet and Violet’s final area. It's hard to tell which parts of it are deliberate mysteries and which were cut for time, but if nothing else, the Scarlet Book or Violet Book gained there both tease additional legendaries, and the game's lore indicates that there is more to the Great Crater of Paldea then what the player has explored. The books basically spell out what two DLC legendary Pokemon are going to be, but they also hint at a much more important third. What form this particular Pokemon will take has been a source of much speculation, but recently, fans across the internet have come forward with a believable theory.

Piecing Together Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Hints of Another Legendary

Something already raising suspicions is that Generation 9’s legendary Pokemon feel disjointed and incomplete. The box legendaries are both technically Paradox forms of the common Pokemon Cyclizar, while the other four are based on the concept of negative emotions imbuing objects with life. Two further legendaries, each one based on a combination of a past generation’s legendary trio, are teased in the Scarlet and Violet Books. Both Books share one final legendary hint, but it is much more vague and threatening. Supposedly, someplace underneath Area Zero in the Great Crater hides a giant disc-shaped legendary Pokemon that may be the source of the Terastal phenomenon.

The picture provided is an abstract piece of art that mostly focuses on a giant orb patterned with hexagons descending into darkness. On top of it seems to be an oceanic scene, with some manner of creature with a crown on its back being followed by a boat. This mysterious Pokemon could be the focus of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC, but fans may have already figured out what form the beast actually takes. The current theory is that it is a giant turtle, based on the World Turtle found in Hindu mythology. The crown on the mysterious creature's back corresponds to the appearance of Terastallized Pokemon, and the being does vaguely resemble a turtle. However, the links go deeper than that.

Further Proof That Scarlet and Violet’s Ultimate Legendary Is A Turtle

In common depictions of the World Turtle, it is assisted in carrying the world by several elephants. Notably, the only Pokemon to receive Paradox forms in both Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the elephantine Pokemon Donphan. Furthermore, the shape of Paldea roughly matches that of a turtle with its head, tail, and four legs sticking out of a shell. It's possible that such a gargantuan beast made up part of the meteor that struck Paldea in the distant past, and what is now Area Zero could be the top of its shell.

The accuracy of these claims have yet to be proven, and the idea of a legendary Pokemon supporting part or all of the region on its back may not come to pass. Pokemon can only be made so large, as they need to be captured by the player and then displayed in battle. That's not to say it couldn't be the Titan form of a catchable legendary, but that would also take some justification. Either way, these theories are well-thought-out and believable, and could offer Pokemon fans a glimpse into the contents of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's inevitable DLC.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
