WARNING: Major spoilers for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet ahead

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC could potentially have a major plot to offer if the developers choose to follow up on the biggest twist from the main story. The story of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet featured one of the most stunning climaxes in the series, with an ending that likely caught a lot of players off guard. With the game's long-awaited DLC expansion approaching, it's not difficult to assume that Game Freak may want to pull a few ideas from the game's existing storyline. If so, the expansion may be able to give players a second surprise with its storyline.

Within the coming months, the DLC expansion for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, will release its first chapter in the form of The Teal Mask. With many players having already explored most if not all of Paldea, the DLC will open the new area of Kitakami to them, as well as an expansion to the Pokedex that will give them a new set of Pokemon to find and catch. The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk should do wonders for the game's lifespan. As long as all goes well, the new content should be able to keep fans entertained until the next generation comes along.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC Could Let Players Reverse a Tragedy

Arguably, the most famous part of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's story is the professor's role. Unlike past generations, where the professor is a mentor figure who gives the player their first Pokemon, Professor Sada or Turo, depending on the version, is a minor presence until the very end of the postgame. However, at that point, it is revealed that not only is the professor dead and replaced with an AI, but the creation of Area Zero was due to one of their inventions that went out of hand. As a result, the deceased professor is, by proxy, the final boss of the game.

The version's professor may be dead, but Scarlet and Violet's DLC could provide closure while also expanding their role. After all, even though the professor's role ultimately fell on the side of antagonism, albeit posthumously, they were Arven's mother or father. Arven in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet could explore his feelings regarding losing them could be interesting, but there is one greater idea. If somehow, the player gains their own ability to use time travel, then they may be able to go back in time and find the professor. This could lead to a second climax where the player and Arven prevent the professor's original death from happening.

As outlandish as it may sound, there are a few potential ways that this could be possible. First, the name of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC could be a clue. The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero implies that the player will eventually return to Area Zero, which was created by the professor's research. Likewise, The Indigo Disk could potentially refer to some device that may grant players the ability to do something spectacular, such as time travel. Of course, there is also Pokemon's old standby option for time travel as well, as the Legendary Pokemon Celebi has been around since Generation 2 and used its powers in several stories.

It would be an unusual move, and some could argue that rescuing the professor wouldn't make sense with the rest of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's themes. However, considering that Professor Sada and Turo are both rather popular characters despite their limited role, giving them a chance at extra spotlight and even survival could be a good move for the DLC to take. Players know that they'll be seeing Kitakami and Blueberry Academy in the DLC, but not much else as of yet. Maybe going on a mission to save Pokemon's most interesting professor could give Pokemon Scarlet and Violet the series' best DLC quest to date.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for Nintendo Switch.
