Game Freak is going to celebrate Christmas with a Delibird Tera Raid Event in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The most festive Pokemon of all is already available to catch in Paldea but will be the centerpiece of a limited-time Tera Raid event that will offer a lot to active players.

Pokemon Sword & Shield had an incredibly long shelf-life for players, with special Max Raid events and seasonal competitions keeping the game alive more than three years after its release. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are shaping up to be much the same, with the game already hosting the challenging seven-star Charizard event as well as the steel Salamence and ghost Tyranitar five-star special raids.

The Presents From Delibird event isn’t going to offer a profound challenge or a pseudo legendary with a powerful Tera type. But as the name suggests, it will provide plenty of great rewards that will make it worthwhile for players.

When is the Delibird Tera Raid Event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

The Delibird Tera Raid event will run from December 23 to December 25. While most of the previous event raids have been gated behind story progression as four, five, and seven-star raids, players who have gotten stuck in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet don’t have to worry. Special event Delibirds will appear in everything from one-star to five-star raids, though the special rewards will be exclusive to five-star raids.

What Do You Get From the Delibird Tera Raid Event?

The Delibird Tera Raid event that will take place during Christmas offers players access to more Tera Shards. According to the official announcement, five-star Delibird raids during this event will offer “various Tera Shard” items as a reward. This is sure to be welcome news for players who enjoy grinding six-star raids or playing ranked battles.

Many Pokemon are made more powerful with unorthodox Tera Types, such as grass Armarouge and steel Hydreigon. The trouble is that it requires 50 of a specific Tera Shard in order to change a Pokemon’s Tera Type.

Changing just one Pokemon’s Tera Type can require days of grinding or loads of frustration from Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s spotty online matchmaking. Getting more Tera Shards makes this an event worth grinding for anyone that wants to craft perfect Pokemon.

Best Delibird Counters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Gholdengo and Skeledirge will likely stand among the best counters to Delibird for this raid event. Players likely won’t have too much difficulty with this raid, however, as it’s not meant to be particularly challenging.

Delibird already exists in five-star raids, with the following move set:

  • Present
  • Drill Peck
  • Ice Punch
  • Blizzard
  • Snowscape

Much like the previous Eevee Tera Raid event, Delibird will appear frequently with a variety of Tera Types and a manageable moveset. The Christmas-themed Pokemon isn’t especially bulky, so getting a win is just a matter of avoiding knockouts.

Gholdengo is a very powerful Pokemon in its own right, and happens to be immune to Present and resists all of Delibird’s other raid attacks. Skeledirge is in a similar position but will take neutral damage from Drill Peck.

Because Delibird isn’t a particularly fearsome Pokemon, anything that’s at a high level and doesn’t take super effective damage from flying or ice moves will be able to do strong work against Delibird. Just avoid using the likes of Dragonite, Salamence, Iron Hands, and Iron Valiant. For those who don’t have a powerful Gholdengo or Skeledirge, look for steel types with vast move sets, such as Kingambit, Tinkaton, and Scizor.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
