Nintendo has revealed the day one patch for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, introducing new features to the latest entry in the Pokemon series. This first patch for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, version 1.0.1, will be available upon the game’s release on November 18, 2022.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet bring a variety of new Pokemon to the series, including Lechonk, Wiglett, and the recently announced Gimmighoul. Koraidon and Miraidon, the Pokemon featured on the covers of Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, respectively, are legendary Pokemon used to travel the open world of Paldea. On top of these new pocket monsters, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduce new features, such as auto-battles and Tera raids.

The day one patch for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet unlocks online play, Tera raids battles, and the Battle Stadium. Up to four players will be able to discover the world of Paldea together and catch new pocket monsters. Pokemon Tera raid battles replace Gigantamax and Dynamax raids from the previous entries in the series. Nintendo plans to release a steady stream of Tera raid battles after the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, sending new data to players through Poke Portals. The last feature announced in version 1.0.1 of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the Battle Stadium, online competitive battles for trainers who want to try their might. Ranked battles will be available starting in December 2022, and online competitions unlock in spring 2023.

For the first time in the Pokemon series, up to four players will be able to explore an open world together. Pokemon Sword and Shield offered the first version of this feature, with the ability to walk through wild areas with a friend. In addition to improving this functionality, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduce the region of Paldea, an open-world map inspired by Spain with various biomes including grassy fields, a desert area, a snowy mountain, and a large crater in the middle of the region.

Version 1.0.1 of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet requires at least 1GB of free space. To access online multiplayer and the Battle Stadium, players will need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. To reward players who install the first update of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Nintendo is offering a special Pikachu with a fancy balloon hat to all Pokemon trainers who access the Mystery Gift feature and select Get via Internet. This reward will be available until Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
