Every generation of Pokemon games introduces new items, some of which are incredibly useful. In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, players have to get to grips with Tera Types, which certainly spices up the regular Pokemon format. This also introduces Tera Shards, which are an interesting item that will be explored in a moment.

Other useful items can be found in the world as hidden items or bought in stores. Players should check out Delibird Presents in each town or city in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, as this store tends to stock useful hold items for Pokemon to use.

7 Tera Shards

Fire Tera type Flareon found in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

These powerful items can be found in the aftermath of a Tera Raid: the Tera Pokemon will shatter, transforming into a regular Pokemon, and may leave Tera Shards behind. These items are useful in the long run. In Medali, they can be exchanged. 50 Tera Shards (of any kind) can be traded to swap a Pokemon's Tera Type.

This means that potentially, any Pokemon can get any Tera Type without too much hassle. However, it may take a while to gather enough Tera Shards. They can sometimes be found in the wild as hidden items, and NPCs will hand them out from time to time.

6 Ability Shield

The Ability Shield is another excellent hold item. It protects the holder from having its ability changed by other Pokemon. If players are about to go into some difficult battles, and they want to make sure that their lead Pokemon can use its base ability, the Ability Shield will help.

The Ability Shield can be found in the Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza City. It costs P20,000 - not too bad, but still pricey enough to prevent new players from equipping their whole team with shields!

5 Clear Amulet

A useful item for Pokemon to hold, the Clear Amulet protects the holder from having its stats lowered by moves against it, or by other Pokemon's abilities. This means an enemy Pokemon's attack may do damage, but it won't lower their stats. It's a useful item and may make the difference between winning or losing a key battle.

The Clear Amulet is given as a reward for defeating 9 trainers in the West Province (Area One). It can also be bought from the Delibird Presents Shop (in Mesgaoza City) for a whopping P30,000.

4 Mirror Herb

The Mirror Herb is a hold item and allows the holder to mirror an enemy Pokemon's stat increases. That means any move that the enemy Pokemon makes to increase their stats will also benefit the player's Pokemon. It's a single-use item, which is annoying, especially given the price.

The Mirror Herb can be found at the excellent Delibird Presents in Cascaraffa. It's an expensive buy at P30,000, but it's also useful for another reason. The Mirror Herb will allow a Pokemon to learn an Egg Move from any Pokemon on a picnic (as long as they have an empty move slot). This opens up some more options in terms of teaching Pokemon powerful moves that would otherwise be locked to breeding Pokemon.

3 Loaded Dice

The map in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet showing the East Province area

This is an excellent hold item for Pokemon. The Loaded Dice increase the number of times that a multi-strike move will hit. For example, moves like Arm Thrust may only be successful 2-3 times, but the addition of a loaded dice may increase that up to 5. It's well worth seeking out the Loaded Dice if players can manage it (for example, if the player has Pawmi/Pawmo in their party, they'll eventually learn Arm Thrust, which can be powerful in conjunction with the Loaded Dice).

To obtain them, players must defeat five or more trainers in the East Province (Area One), then speak to the League Rep at the Pokemon Center. He'll hand over the Loaded Dice as a reward.

2 Booster Energy

Booster Energy has some amazing effects, but it's a difficult one to get hold of. There may be some spoilers in this section, so feel free to skip ahead! Booster Energy is only designed for Paradox Pokemon to use, and these arrive late in the game. These Pokemon have special abilities which are only triggered in the right terrain. Booster Energy allows them to use these abilities right away, which makes it a very powerful item.

This item can be found in the Great Crater of Paldea. Players won't be able to access this until they've completed the main three story threads, so this is definitely an endgame item in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

1 Covert Cloak

East Province Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

The Covert Cloak is a hold item that makes the holder immune to secondary effects from moves. For example, a move that has a secondary effect (like causing Pokemon to go to sleep, or causing Paralysis) will still cause damage, but won't be able to cause the secondary effect to take place.

The Covert Cloak is a useful item. It can be found in Delibird Presents in Levinicia (next to Area Two of East Province). It can be bought for P20,000. Pricey, but may be worth the investment before a tough battle.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is currently available on Switch.
