Pokemon Scarlet and Violet continues the long standing tradition of in-game trades, trading a Pokemon with an NPC in order to receive a specific Pokemon in return. While in-game trades are often overlooked, these titles in particular offer players a chance to get certain Pokemon much earlier than would normally be possible through this method, and one Pokemon form is even locked entirely behind this in-game trade. At present there are three NPCs that offer to trade with the player regardless of whether or not players chose to buy Scarlet or Violet, and the trades are the same in both cases as well.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can of course still trade with each other, but the three trades referenced here are trades that can be made once per save file with specific NPCs found throughout Paldea. They always request the same Pokemon and always return a specific Pokemon with predetermined gender, nature, level, and the like.

All In-Game NPC Trades

The first in-game trade can be found in one of the first Pokemon cities, Cortondo. Follow the main road and players should see a young child with a yellow speech bubble that simply says "Flabébé." Speak to this NPC and players can trade a Flabébé (any form is fine) for a Snom. Snom normally can't be caught until much later, and Flabébé is found in the first area, making this trade well worth players' time. The Snom in question is male, level 10, has the Shield Dust ability, and is of the Rash Nature.

The second in-game trade is located in Cascarrafa by the fountain. Once again, keep an eye out for a trainer with a yellow speech bubble that says "Paldean Wooper." This trainer will explain that they managed to catch a Wooper from a different region, and will ask that the player trade them a Paldean Wooper in return for a Johtonian Wooper. This Johtonian Wooper is male, level 18, has the Damp ability, and is Impish in nature. Notably, this is the only way that players can attain Johtonian Wooper in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Finally, the third in-game trade is located in Levincia in the Battle Court. Players will find another trainer with a yellow speech bubble, this time requesting Pincurchin. Trade the trainer a Pincurchin and players will receive a Haunter in return. However, players familiar with how to evolve Gastly's evolution line will know that trading Haunter evolves it into a Gengar, and the same holds true in this trade. This Haunter is male, level 25, has the Levitate ability, the Brave nature, and will immediately evolve into Gengar upon completion of the trade.
