Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are just around the corner, and The Pokemon Company has illustrated that the games still have plenty of surprises in store. In the latest trailer, gamers got to see a few new features, including the ability to have picnics and craft TMs. TM crafting is a major addition to the series which should help cut back on grinding, though the machine has to be handled correctly for it to be useful. Most importantly, it should not be a junkyard of lame TMs. Instead, it should pack the best TMs, giving players a reason to use the machine.

TMs are some of the most useful items in the games, as they teach Pokemon new moves. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's TM Machine should make crafting the perfect team easier, as Trainers won't have to hunt high and low for the TMs they require. Hopefully, the TM Machine doesn't have too many limitations, and all the TMs one can think of are available.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Introduce TM Crafting

In Pokemon games, there are a few ways that critters can learn new moves. Most of the best moves are gained through TMs, also known as Technical Machines. These strange devices, which are developed by Silph Co., teach Pokemon some of the best moves in the game, but they can be difficult to obtain. In past games, some have been stashed in hidden areas of hard-to-reach routes or have been handed out as rewards by Pokemon Gym Leaders. Some TMs can also be purchased, but the best ones usually have a hefty price tag attached.

Acquiring TMs will be a little easier in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as the games will introduce TM crafting. Players will be able to make the TMs they desire, but ifferent TMs will require different resources. For example, the latest trailer showed that crafting a Thunder Fang TM will require a thousand League Points as well as three Shinx Fangs. It should help gamers avoid unnecessary grinding, although the machine will be useless if it doesn't contain the best of the best.

The TM Machine Should Pack The Best TMs

In some games, there are over a hundred TMs available, and not all of them are impressive. For instance, Double Team raises the evasion stat, but other moves do a better job. Explosion could come in handy when one wishes to take down a titan, but it is also a self-destructive move that one's opponent could survive. A TM Machine packed with these kinds of TMs would be mostly useless, as Trainer will likely have their eyes on the cream of the crop, which includes TMs like Roost, Earthquake, and Scald.

It has yet to be revealed whether the TM Machine will contain every TM. If it does, the best TMs are likely to require plenty of League Points and other resources. As The Pokemon Company has explained, League Points are gained by progressing through the game, or by trading materials dropped by wild Pokemon after a battle. After a TM has been crafted it can only be used once but players are free to craft as many TMs as they wish. Packed with the right TMs, the machine could become an important component of a Trainer's long-term strategy for crafting the perfect team.

Although most gamers will likely appreciate TM crafting and how it simplifies Pokemon's process of TM acquisition, some fans feel that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet continue the trend of Pokemon games catering to a younger audience. It remains to be seen how the machine will impact gameplay, and whether it, in conjunction with other features like Auto Battles, will make the upcoming games even easier. Fortunately, gamers won't have to wait too much longer before they have the games in their hands.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are scheduled to release on November 18, 2022, on Nintendo Switch.
