The reveal trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet revealed a lot; from characters, to places, and of course, plenty of Pokemon. Fans have focused mostly on the new starters, Sprigatito, Quaxly, and Fuecoco, which were revealed in a framed picture at the end of the trailer. Other than those three, the trailer had a lot of recognizable Pokemon that fans can now be pretty sure will be in the games.

With the new starters, fans are excited about reveals of new Pokemon fit for a region based on Spain. No other new Pokemon have been shown yet, but there are plenty of familiar creatures running around the trailer. So far, the games look to be more open-world like Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

The Pokemon Seen In The Trailer

When the trailer gets into the game setting, Pokemon are seen exploring out in the wild and in-town. The first to be seen is a Starly flying around in a meadow, and then Hoppip by some wind turbines. On the ground in another scene with trees are Petilil and Bounsweet. In some rainy marshes, some Psyduck are shown, and during what appears to be sunset, the trailer also showed Drifloon and Combee. Early generation Pokemon like Meowth were also spotting walking along a trail at night, and later generation Pokemon like Stonjourner were shown in a sandstorm area. Some Water-types also were in the trailer, such as Pelipper and Clauncher on a beach.

Then the trailer moves onto cities instead of the open wild. In one city, two Swablu are sitting on a line of pennant string flags, and a Pikachu is hanging out. By what appears to be a fruit tree in the city, a Blissey is sleeping while hugging its egg. The Pokemon shown afterward are through quick flashes and include Serviper, Larvitar, Magnemite, and Lucario. There is also an example of Pokemon shown in architecture, such as a Dratini fountain. In what appears to be the players' house, there is also an adorable Hoppip planter.

Lastly, of course, the framed picture of the three new starters appears. The three starters are what fans are really focused on because they are completely new. Sprigatito appears to be based on a cat, the Quaxly a duck, and the Fuecoco is like a crocodile meets a red pepper. The starters are already popping up in fan art and theories as to what they will look like when they evolve.

What To Expect

A lot of fans are making predictions about the upcoming games. When it comes to Pokemon, history has shown that there are often exclusives depending on the game. So while a lot of Pokemon were shown in the trailer, some will likely be exclusive to Scarlet, while others are to Violet. What fans really are waiting for, though, is the new Pokemon for this generation.

New Pokemon will likely be tied to the region's culture, from dances to foods and flora. There are actually plenty of Pokemon already that fans can see associated with these new games due to their Spanish origin. Such Pokemon include Tauros, Sunflora, and the Baile Style of Oricorio, because real Spain's culture includes the running of the bulls, its Flamenco dancing, and having a major export of sunflowers. If such Pokemon are not in the games, it will be a missed opportunity.

The new games will likely not have a National Pokedex, so it is completely unknown how many more Pokemon from previous games will be included. It is likely to include a lot from Pokemon Legends: Arcreus and possibly more from Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are set for release in 2022 on Nintendo Switch.
