One of the most popular new Pokemon to be announced for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is Fidough. The Fairy-type puppy Pokemon has captured the hearts of fans the moment it walked on screen in the latest trailer. Many fans expected a dog or puppy, as nearly every generation has one, from Growlithe in Generation One to Yamper in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Much is still unknown about Fidough. Fans do not yet know its evolution line, rarity, or movesets. However, a lot can be determined by design, type, and name alone. Fans have already connected its design to Spanish culture, which is part of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's region theme.

What Its Name And Design Reveals

Fidough's design is reminiscent of other food-oriented Pokemon like Alcremie, Swirlix, and Appletun. If the design itself is not a big enough clue to its pastry relation, Fidough also has "dough" in its name. The Bulbapedia has already theorized the origin of the design in connect to Scarlet and Violet's Spanish inspirations. In Spain, particularly in Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, there is an iconic pastry called ensaimadas. Ensaimadas typically make a coil shape, which is reminiscent of Fidough's ears. The pastry also appears to be the same color as this puppy Pokemon.

Another detail fans noticed is a pun in Fidough's design. The puppy is bread adjacent, which may have been inspired by the idea of a purebred dog, with the pun being "pure bread." Its Japanese name is Papimocchi, which is a combination of the word for puppy and mochi (which is a Japanese rice cake). Furthering Fidough's bread connection, it was also revealed that Fidough is useful for cooking because it has yeast in its breath. Yeast is essential for baking, so in all likelihood, Fidough will be seen in plenty of restaurants and kitchens around the Paldea region.

Fidough Facts And Speculation

The official Pokemon Scarlet and Violet website mentioned that when startled, Fidough will puff up to seem larger. Its ability is Own Tempo, which is useful because it means that Fidough cannot get the Confused status condition. It's generally one foot tall and its weight is 24 pounds.

Categorized as the "Puppy Pokemon," Fidough shares a title with Growlithe, Lillipup, Rockruff, and Yamper. In all likelihood, Fidough will be part of a two-step evolution line, as all other Puppy Pokemon have this except for Lillipup who has three. There is the possibility of Fidough getting two types of evolutions like Rockruff. Some fans have theorized Fidough's evolution coming in different flavors like Alcremie, but so far this has only been fan speculation. If this theory did come true, though, it could mean Fidough evolving with the assistance of certain items like Alcremie's decorations.

Based on the fact that Fidough is pure Fairy-type, there a few clear candidates as to what sort of moves it could know. Possible moves could include Baby-Doll Eyes, Play Rough, Draining Kiss, and Sweet Kiss. Scarlet and Violet could also introduce some new Fairy-type moves, as the relatively new Pokemon type does not have quite as many moves as others. When it evolves, it's possible that Fidough will not stay pure Fairy-type. Known leaker Riddler Khu has suggested that Fidough's evolution could be the first Fairy/Fire type.

Most are expecting Fidough to be available to catch easily in the game, possibly towards the beginning. It was true of most other Puppy Pokemon, and of non-legendary Pokemon first introduced in trailers. With how popular Fidough has become upon reveal, getting to catch the cute little Fairy puppy early is not just a theory, but a hope.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are set to release on November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
