A fan of Game Freak’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet took to the internet for help after their brother accidentally traded away a high-level Pokemon while attempting to complete their Pokedex, and received an unexpectedly happy ending after the mix-up. The player had been attempting to trade the Dragon type Pokemon Miraidon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet when they unexpectedly connected with the wrong user.

Trading has been an essential part of Nintendo and Game Freak’s Pokemon games since the franchise began, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is no different. In a new feature designed to make trading easier, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduced Poke Portals which allow gamers to choose between a Link Trade or a Surprise Trade. Link Trades allow gamers to trade directly with another player, the perfect choice for those seeking out a specific Pokemon to use during Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, while Surprise Trades provide players with a random Pokemon offered up by other trainers.

In a post featuring a surprising and happy ending shared on the r/Pokemon subreddit, Reddit user Tyrsden recounted the mix-up that led to his brother accidentally trading away his level 72 Miraidon. Tyrsden explains how his brother was attempting to do a trade with him for a Koraidon, but accidentally connected with a user named Eloin and traded his high-level Miraidon for the rabbit-like Pokemon Scorbunny. Turning to the subreddit in an attempt to track down Eloin to reverse the trade, Tyrsden noted that his brother was extremely upset that he was now unable to complete his Pokedex.

While seeking out an unknown player after a botched Pokemon trade may seem like searching for a needle in a haystack, Tyrsden’s brother received an unexpected happy ending when Eloin responded to the post after reading the story. Contacting Tyrsden through a direct message, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans were able to sort out the mix-up and return the wayward Koraidon to its original owner. Redditors responding to the post were overjoyed at the unexpectedly happy ending, with many comments expressing surprise at the fact that the two players were able to find each other through the popular discussion site. Celebrating the tidy resolution, Tyrsden thanked Eloin for returning the Miraidon and wished them “an abundance of joy and luck” in the new year.

This uplifting story of a bad trade made right in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a wonderful example of how small actions can lead to positive outcomes. While it would have been easy for Eloin to simply let the powerful Miraidon disappear into their own collection, by being willing to reverse the trade they were able to help a fellow gamer start the new year with a win and provide Reddit with a great story.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for Nintendo Switch.
