While Game Freak is still busy supporting Pokemon Sword and Shield with things like the upcoming Crown Tundra expansion, some fans are looking ahead to what's next from the long-running franchise. No new main series Pokemon games have been announced, but a new rumor making the rounds online suggests that the next games will be remasters.

This rumor stems from Twitter account Nintend'Alerts, which has accurately leaked Nintendo-related news in the past. In response to people complaining about the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, they said that people are going to complain even more about "Pokemon thing" that's coming. This seems to suggest that Pokemon remasters or a collection of some sort is in the works, though that's just speculation at this time.

It's hard to see why Pokemon fans would complain about the chance to play some of the older games on the Switch. Historically, older Pokemon games have maintained or increased in market value since their launch, and so acquiring them can be an especially expensive endeavor. Not only that, but many fans are clamoring for the chance to return to the Sinnoh region in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes.

Maybe instead of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, Nintendo just plans on porting the original Diamond and Pearl games to the Switch. Such a move would likely upset some Pokemon fans who have already thoroughly played Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS and are wanting the experience to be upgraded for the Switch. But again, that's just speculation at this time. It's difficult to decipher exactly what Nintend'Alerts means by the tweet, and so fans will just have to wait for Nintendo to share more information.

As previously stated, the Pokemon Sword and Shield games are awaiting their Crown Tundra DLC, which is currently without a release date. Whatever Nintendo has planned for the future of the main series Pokemon franchise, news on it likely won't come until some time after the Crown Tundra DLC launches. Considering this, fans may have to wait until 2021 to learn more about whatever the next games will be, whether they are proper Diamond and Pearl remakes or something completely different.

In the meantime, there are rumors that Game Freak may actually have a third Sword and Shield DLC expansion up its sleeve. Rumors indicate that the third expansion would have players returning to the Kalos region from Pokemon X and Y, but they have yet to be substantiated.
