As Pokemon is a series filled with both cute and strange creatures of many shapes and sizes, the franchise has had its hand in trying to make merchandise for them all. The latest generation of Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield has introduced a new corgi-inspired pocket monster, and as corgis are marketed in all sorts of ways, so is the Puppy Pokemon Yamper with a pillow of its butt.
Pembroke Welsh corgis are known worldwide by dog lovers for being cute, and are most famously owned by the Queen of England. Pokemon fans have speculated that the Queen's corgis are the inspiration for Yamper, as the region of Galar shown in Sword & Shield is the series' take on the UK.
With the hype around corgis, tons of items have been made in both the image of corgis, and also of Yamper despite the Pokemon being relatively new to the Pokedex. Many dog owners think that the trait to be the cutest about corgis is their butts, and Pokemon Center Japan has decided to invest in the corgi dog merchandise by literally making a pillow of Yamper's butt available for fans to own.
The product's description on the Pokemon Center Online store says the pillow is "textured like a chewy marshmallow," with the name of the product in Japanese saying that it's made for napping. At the very least, pictures on the website show that the intention isn't to make fans stick their faces directly on the butt in particular; just on top of it. The pillow is meant to sit on a work desk as Yamper lovers sleep with their hands in the hand warmers off to the sides.
As strange as it is, the pillow is bound to get a few laughs out of fans, and a fair deal of potential buyers. It was released within a set of items featuring Pikachu, Eevee, Grooky, and Yamper as they all take a nap in the warm sunshine. For interested Yamper fans, they can get socks, charms, and even a matching sleep mask for when they sleep with their Puppy Pokemon pillow.
So far, the pillow is available for Pokemon fans in Japan, but there's no word yet if this curious item will be available on more worldwide platforms such as the US Pokemon Center store. The chance is high, but for fans who love the little dog who can't wait for more info, it can be purchased starting at $37 after conversion on Japanese storefronts.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield feature Yamper, and are available now on Nintendo Switch.
