First released in 1996 for the Nintendo Game Boy, the Pokemon franchise has since grown into a bonafide cultural phenomenon. Now spanning eight generations and featuring a multitude of releases on various Nintendo handhelds and consoles, the Pokemon series continues to grow with sequels, spin-offs, and physical media.

2021 has been a particularly good year to be a Pokemon fan. Mobile battler Pokemon Unite was recently released for Android and iOS, Nintendo announced that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are coming to Switch on November 19th, and a new title in the series, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, was also announced. Legends Arceus looks to advance the mainline Pokemon series by offering up a more interactive open world, improved 3d graphics, and a greater action-RPG focus.

With as great as 2021 has so far been to the Pokemon community, it may be hard for players to believe that 2022 may even be better. Twitter user and Pokemon leaker CentroLeaks has recently posted a tweet saying that that may just be the case, however. The short post simply states, “2022 will be very exciting too for Pokemon fans,” before adding, “Even more than 2021 if nothing gets delayed.”

CentroLeaks then revealed two more cryptic tweaks the following day. One features several pairs of emoticons and the other contains the text, “SE, P.DP, D22 … You’ll understand everything soon.” CentroLeaks has responded to frustrated fans demanding more clues by saying that they are unable to divulge any more information out of respect for their source.

While all of the tweets are clearly very vague, that hasn’t stopped fans from theorizing what could be coming in 2022, like more information on the incoming live-action Pokemon Netflix series or a proper 9th generation mainline game reveal. CentroLeaks has been around for 15 years and has acquired over 108 thousand followers on Twitter, so it is certainly possible that they do have some sort of insider information that they will continue to slowly reveal to fervent fans over time.

Regardless of what these teases will end up being, Pokemon fans still have an excellent 2021 and 2022 to look forward to. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of some of the most beloved entries in the franchise and Pokemon Legends: Arceus looks to be one of the most ambitious titles in the series in quite some time. Fans will just have to wait and see what materializes from CentroLeaks other teases on Twitter.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus releases on January 28, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch.
