Since Ash's introduction in the late 90's, the ten-year-old boy's appearance has changed steadily over the years. Although the general design has remained much the same throughout the majority of the Pokemon franchise, Ash's look was significantly altered for the Pokemon Sun and Moon anime series - and it's about to change once more.

For the upcoming twenty-first Pokemon movie, Wit Studio, of Attack on Titan fame, is partnering up with current show animators OLM in order to bring a new look to the long-running franchise. In this brief Japanese teaser trailer, we can get our first glimpse of Ash's new design, and there's no denying how beautiful the animation is already looking.

Ash's new appearance looks a lot cleaner than it has in the past, with smoother features and less sharp edges to his design. He's also looking a lot less goofy than his Sun and Moon anime style, which a lot of fans are sure to be thankful for. The protagonist's iconic outfit has also seen another change-up, one that looks very heavily inspired by some of the Pokemon trainer's most iconic appearances.

We don't know a lot about what the newest movie is going to feature, but it looks as though Ash will be meeting another female companion, judging by footage shown in the brief teaser trailer. After the latest movie took the series back to its roots with a retelling of the original Ash and Pikachu story, this new feature-length film might carry on from the newly-established timeline or else carry on the anime's story after Sun and Moon.

Hopefully, this new film won't come with any controversial changes such as Pokemon: I Choose You's decision to make Pikachu speak English for the first time in Pokemon history. Although the choice certainly managed to spark a lot of discussions, with an audience reaction clip going viral, it seemed that the decision was taken rather negatively by many angry old-school Pokemon fans.
