Throughout the Generations of Pokémon, signature moves have always been there. For those that don’t know, a signature move is exactly what it sounds like; a move that can only be used by specific Pokémon or a certain Pokémon’s line. Throughout the years, signature moves have changed, with some Pokémon getting different moves and some getting completely new ones.

Each move is unique in how they operate. Signature moves can deal out massive amounts of damage (like Psystrike) while others (like Lovely Kiss) just put Pokémon to sleep. Either way, these moves are all effective in different ways.

10 Gear Grind

Kline In Action

This signature move is used by the Kline line of Pokemon. This Steel-type move is very effective at dealing out damage, hitting the opponent twice every time it’s used. It has the potential to kill each time an opponent is struck getting ground into these steel geared bodies.

9 Lovely Kiss

Jynx In Action

This move has stayed signature since Gen II. It is a move used by Jynx that puts the opponent to sleep with a big kiss. It has a 75% accuracy rate, which is nothing to laugh at, though that’s not the best.

The reason why it is so good is because of the sleep effect it gives. This is always an effective state to put a Pokémon in. It doesn’t deal much damage but, in Gen I-IIV games, when paired with moves such as Dream Eater or Hex it gives an extra three appeals in the next turn.

8 Bonemerang

Cubone In Action

A signature move of both Cubone and Marowak, this Ground-type, multi-strike move has a 90% accuracy rate. First introduced in Gen I, the accuracy level makes it super effective at inflicting damage. In Gen I the first strike was the one that can be critical, the second hit deals massive amounts of damage. In Gen II it was changed so now both hits deal independent amounts of damage.

7 Head Charge

Bouffalant In Action

Head charge is a normal move that is used by the Pokémon Bouffalant. Its damage ability is good, dealing out 120 damage. But its accuracy is what makes it so powerful, as it won't be missing with a 100% hit rate.

A player will receive some recoil when this move is used, but it’s one-fourth of the damage that was inflicted. There are certainly ways to get around this damage as well with healing items or held items.

6 Volt Tackle

Volt Tackle Pikachu

This move was first introduced in Generation III. It is used by Pikachu’s evolutionary line and can be used by any of them. This Electric-type move deals 120 damage and has a 100% accuracy rate.

The recoil damage the player takes is only ¼ of the normal damage. After Gen IV, it now also has a 10% chance of paralyzing the opponent. The cool part about this move is if players breed a Pikachu or a Raichu with a Light Ball, that resulting Pokémon will always have Volt Tackle as an ability.

5 Chatter

Chatot In Action

When this move first was introduced, players thought it was nothing more than a goofy move used by Chatot. In players defense, it is kinda weird, with players on the Nintendo DS literally having to scream into the mic to make it work.

However, we have seen that since its introduction that this Flying-type move actually has proven to be effective. With 100% accuracy and 65 power, it can be used to confuse the opponent. This move gave Chatot a competitive edge and definitely made him an opponent to be reckoned with.

4 Sketch

Smeargle In Action

The signature move of the little Pokémon Smeargle, Sketch is a surprisingly good move. Despite this move being non-damaging, it merits a good spot on the list. This move enables Smeargle to take on and copy the last move the opponent used. And he can copy almost every single move available in most games. This is a super cool ability and definitely something a player wants to have.

3 King's Shield

Aegislash In Action

King’s Shield is a non-damaging offensive move that is the signature move of Aegislash. This move compliments Aegislash well. Since Aegislash is a bulky Pokémon, this move is like protect but better.

It changes the stats completely, going from offensive to defensive. The most devastating part of this move is it cuts the effectiveness of the opponent's moves in half.

2 Thousand Arrows

Zygarde In Action

With 90 power and 100% accuracy this ground move is nothing to mess with. The signature move of Zygarde, this move is best used against Flying-type Pokemon, as it can hit Pokémon not only on the ground but in the air. It even hits Pokémon that are levitating. Not only does it hit Flying-types, but it also grounds them, making them more vulnerable to ground attacks.

1 Psystrike

MewTwo Poster

A fan favorite move used by Mewtwo, this powerful Psychic-type move that deals massive amounts of physical damage giving it the spot of number one. It deals out 100 damage and is 100% accurate.

First introduced in Gen V, it actually wasn’t able to be obtained by Mewtwo unless by Poké Transfer. It is now its signature move and has been for a while. In Pokémon GO, Psystrike makes Mewtwo the most powerful Pokémon in the whole game, which is nothing to laugh at.
