The history of Pokemon plushies goes back to the beginning of the franchise, but fans are still crafting new plushies of their favorite Pocket Monsters to this day. One particularly crafty fan has not only sewn himself an evolving Pokemon plushie, he's also showing it off in video format.

Redditor JackOfAllProfessions runs an Etsy shop of the same name where she sells small, adorable plushies of all kinds, but she appears to have decided to push her own limits with one recent creation. Yesterday, she uploaded a 33-second-long video showing a Metapod plush evolving--with a little help--into a Butterfree plush. That's certainly one way to make Pokemon plushies exciting.

In the video, a pale green Metapod plush is shown sitting on what appears to be either a bed or a couch while the iconic evolution music from the Pokemon games begins playing. A shadow slowly spreads over the doll as text appears, declaring that Metapod is evolving. A pair of hands reach in from off-screen to unzip Metapod's front and gradually free something from inside the plush--specifically, a Butterfree plush about the same size as the Metapod. This cleverly sewn evolution mechanic makes the two-in-one plush combo worthy of appearing in any great Pokemon plush collection.

The "evolution" process takes up most of the video and is sped up by several cuts, but by the 28-second mark the Butterfree plush is free and propped up beside the Metapod plush. It is a highly detailed creation featuring red compound eyes, a little blue snout with two small fangs, free-standing antennae, and intricately outlined wings. The comparative sizes may make it easy to understand why the artist had some trouble extracting the Butterfree plush from its Metapod chrysalis, but the end result is difficult to argue with. Both plushies are soft, cuddly, and would look right at home with another fan's amigurumi crocheted Pokemon plushies.

The response to the evolving Metapod and Butterfree plush has been very warm, with many fans expressing that they are impressed with JackOfAllProfessions' work. Some fans have even requested to know if the artist plans to sell these plushies. As it turns out, JackOfAllProfessions has no intention of adding this evolving plush to their shop, but sge would be open to commissions from dedicated Pokemon fans. As the time-lapse video of a Lego Pikachu being built shows, the Pokemon fandom is full of dedicated fans.
