Pokemon Trading Card Game fans are anxiously awaiting the release of multiple upcoming card sets. The Celebrations set in particular is causing a wave in the Pokemon TCG community, stirring up a lot of nostalgia about the game from past years. One example can be found on the Pokemon subreddit, where fans have been sharing some of their favorite interesting cards. In this example, a Redditor pointed out a unique connection between the Meowth and Inkay cards from Roaring Skies.

Between the two cards, a short but adorable story is told. In the Meowth card, the cat Pokemon is shown having plucked a round fruit that looks like a cross between a radish and a melon. Meowth sings happily about their discovery, with the card's description noting that Meowths love collecting round objects. In the background of the card, however, an Inkay looms in shadow. It even looks like the Inkay is powering up to use one of its psychic abilities.

The Inkay card conveys the second chapter of the story, a short time after the events of the Meowth card. In the foreground, now Inkay holds the radish-melon. The card's edges are lined with streaks, conveying that the Inkay is running away with speed. The Inkay also has a notable smirk and glint to its eyes. In the background, a very unhappy Meowth chases after Inkay. The Meowth's eye, as well as several spots on its fur, have been blotched with black ink.

Commenters on the Reddit thread were quick to point out the two cards' oh-so-appropriate abilities. Meowth's first ability is Feelin' Fine, which allows the player to draw a card. Naturally, Meowth looks like it's feeling very fine on its card. Meanwhile, Inkay's first ability is Rip Off, which allows the player to take a random card from their opponent's hand, forcing them to shuffle it into their deck.

While Inkay isn't explicitly said to be a nefarious Pokemon, more often described as a skittish and quick to run Pokemon, its selection of Dark abilities does lend itself to being untrustworthy. For example, Inkay can learn Thief, Fake Tears, Nasty Plot, and Foul Play. There's the clear inspiration for Inkay's Pokemon card and its story of thievery.

A majority of the responses in the Reddit thread are talking about their favorite Pokemon cards that tell stories. Perhaps not coincidentally, a video from YouTube channel Lockstin & Gnoggin released a video today detailing Pokemon cards that tell a story. It even included Meowth and Inkay. Perhaps this Redditor saw an opportunity for free publicity and capitalized on it.

The Pokemon TCG's Celebrations expansion releases October 8.
