Pokémon Masters is the hot new mobile game set in Pokémon World. Far from the spiritual successor to Pokémon GO that many were expecting, Masters is a battle-heavy, nostalgic romp onto the new Pokémon Island of Paiso. Players get to spend hours building and training their teams and battling all sorts of recognizable faces from past games. One of the late-game upgrades players will need to best the very best are gears.

Gears allow players to boost their team's stats. A team can have up to three gears equipped at one time: a bracelet, a bandanna, and a pin. Each item is associated with a different stat. Bracelets help to boost ATK, bandannas raise SP ATK, and pins give characters more HP. Each piece of gear is associated with an element; players will want to match elements with their favorite Pokémon to get the full bonus.

Unlocking Gear in Pokémon Masters

To access gear, a trainer will need to play pretty far into the Pokémon Masters Co-Op Main story line. Chapter 18, called "Challenge Cheren & Hilbert & Hilda," is the final chapter in the Co-Op story, but it certainly is not the end of the game. Trainers will have to not only need to beat Chapter 18 on normal, but again on hard.

This battle is not easy! Cheren, Hilbert, and Hilda are difficult enemies that will require some grinding, perfectly Synced Pairs, and a little bit of strategy to beat. Since Cheren will boost the others on the team, a great strategy is to take her out of the battle first. This will boost a player's chances to undermine the other team's strats and come out victorious.

After Chapter 18 is complete, a new training mission with Professor Bellis will appear called "Get Stronger with Gear." To access it, click on the "Training Area" button from the main menu, then click on "Special Training: Battle Techniques." "Get Stronger with Gear" should be the first option. The training battle should be pretty easy after that last fight!

Getting Some Gears

After the "Get Stronger with Gear" training has been completed, trainers will get their first gear as a reward along with some much-needed gems (but no coins). This level 1 Electric Bracelet will help to boost any electric Pokémon's ATK. While all gears are considered a rare drop, players will be able to get one guaranteed drop of each by replaying previous chapters on higher difficulties (Very Hard, Future Very Hard, and EX Challenges). Replaying these chapters will also give them access to the Cloth, Needles, and other materials they'll need to upgrade them. After the first guaranteed drop, these gears will have a drop rate of 5-10% upon completing battles. While it will take a bit of grinding to get gears leveled up, it will be worth it for all those trainers trying to get ready for the Blue and Pidgeot event.

Pokémon Masters is available for most mobile devices, both Android and iOS.
