Mobile gacha games frequently add special-edition characters to collect for limited times, encouraging players to spend their in-game resources so they can avoid missing out. Nintendo's mobile games are no exception. Intelligent System's Fire Emblem Heroes recently added Three Houses characters in summer-themed outfits, and now DeNA's Pokemon Masters is doing the same with its upcoming "Summer Superstars" event.

The event, which has no specified release date as of this writing, will feature Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver's protagonist Lyra as well as Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald's Champion Steven attending a music festival on the artificial island Pasio with new Pokemon partners: A Jigglypuff and an Alolan Sandslash respectively. Though the announcement of this event on Twitter simply says it is "coming soon," Pokemon Masters will be undergoing maintenance tonight from 7:00 p.m. to 10:59 p.m. to prepare for major updates.

Among the new things coming to the game are a trial stamina system, skip tickets to ignore certain battles, and a retrofitted training area that will facilitate the removal of certain items. These changes and the summer-themed event were detailed earlier this month when Pokemon Masters announced major updates for its first anniversary.

As the mobile title approaches its first anniversary, it has received a number of special events leading up to this Summer Superstars storyline. The most prominent added Team Rocket's Jessie into Pokemon Masters as a tie-in for the upcoming Pokemon the Movie: Coco, despite its Japanese release date being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Pokemon Masters is available now on Android and iOS.
